I'd rather take Dombrandt than either of them - but I'm guessing EJ isn't prepared to gamble on his lack of experience. As a supporter, it's frustrating watching the Ins/Outs of each training squad selection - whilst I'd hope he's explaining his rationale to the individual players, I can't help thinking the inconsistency could be more damaging than the competitive environment it could be creating. The notable omissions - Dannys x2, Dombrandt etc. are players with an X-Factor who perhaps don't always stick to the gameplan, but can win a match on a moment of individual brilliance. My concern is the core of the squad comprises of 'compliant' players who will be drilled to a gameplan and won't be able to adapt under pressure.

Sorry BQ and TBQ I think Curry carries well and Underhill tackles everything in the stadium but would still have Robshaw there as it's not just the turnovers but slowing oppo ball down where he's better. Plus he tackles!

No need to be sorry! You are wrong though :P

Curry and Underhill are both breakdown specialists and also frequent top tacklers. Their work transitioning from tackler into immediately getting over the ball is what has earned them their call ups. They're just both quicker in those situations (and in broken field too) than current-day Robbo - youth definitely helps in this regard. Robshaw should be in there ahead of Shields in my opinion, pushing Wilson for the 6 shirt.

I genuinely think if the progress Robshaw has made at the breakdown over the last 12-18 months had come an RWC cycle ago, he'd still be holding down a starting shirt for England. It's all come a little too late for his England career I feel - but on the flip side, great for Quins for another couple of years! And who knows, all it takes is for Eddie to injure one of his back rowers... which, let's be honest, would not be hugely surprising.

Shields has one advantage over Robshaw. He is bigger and a better lineout forward. That is the only thing I can see as superior to Robshaw.

I don't think I've ever seen a better all round, more consistent player than Robshaw. Ask yourself how many poor games you can remember him having.

Robshaw is a warrior. However, what you think and I think, does not matter. It is what Eddie thinks that matters.

They obviously see something more in the metrics or play of Shields.

Their loss is our gain. Make him Club Captain and get him playing every game for the mighty quins!

Well deserved. He offers a creditable big ball carrier option at 8. The only other real 8 is Billy V. Mark Wilson cam do a job, but good to have some other big carriers available.

He’s been called up as a replacement for Shields, who Jones has broken already.
