Marchant on the Bench today

Apparently EJ doesn't want to risk Joseph, who has some "muscle tightness". Marchant will be wearing #23.

If he does, it will either be because of a genuine injury or precautionary sub, or because Eddie is worried about the fitness of one of the other backs and wants to test him out. These games are about giving the RWC squad game time, and Marchant isn’t currently part of that plan.

Good luck to him hope he gets some game time, he is clearly 1st reserve and with England’s injury record at center he could easily get a call up.  I think he’d shine outside Ford and Farrell.

Made huge mistake had tickets in East Stand today just a nightmare eventually left before Joe came on at 70 mins very annoying but could not take the heat on us anymore. Rfu need more water fountains and to stop selling individual bottles of water. Only one I. Each corner.

Went to a Barbarians v England game I think the day after we won the prem and was in the NE corner where the sun came round in the second half. It was extremely hot but the stewards were giving bottles of water away to people in the hot areas that looked like they needed them or to people that asked for water. It would have been hotter today.

Great to be there today to see Joe win his 2nd cap but had to leave 5 mins from the end. Did he actually touch the ball today or has he set some kind of a record of winning 2 caps without even getting a touch?

Why doesn't everyone sit in the West stand in the shade?

I always do!

That wouldn’t be possible would it.

No deadly, it’s not often a problem but when it is it’s not pleasant.

Don’t quite understand why Joe was even on the bench (let alone given a game), when he is not in the ‘final’ World Cup squad. Surely a squad member should have been there.
This is not a dig at Joe, as I think he is a top class player and should have been in the squad anyway.
Can anybody enlighten me as to what EJ is playing at?
This is not a dig at Eddie, as I think he is our best option for RWC.

Player management. That's why he has Marchant, Ewels and Kvesic training with the squad. Is there another fit player you would have subbed on into the centre?

I think in terms of covering for any mid match injury he was the right bench option as he's the back up centre now.

What I'm not sold on was his second pointless cameo off the bench, though it was at least not actually insulting like the 55 second one Vs Wales.

Either you want to blood him and see what he does once the game is won in case you call him up, so you give him 30 mins or so, or don't bring him on. 10 mins cameos or less are pointless and annoying

Maybe Jones will decide to rest a few players v Italy so Marchant might get a bit more game time and a couple of touches to show what he can do. To echo other comments it very much looks like he is one of the backup players for the RWC squad, would be interesting to find out who is the backup SH option.
