Does this mean that we can assume that Joe M is 1st reserve for the backs in case of injury? Or is making any assumptions about EJ's squad selection policy a futile exercise?

He must be in the reserve / call ups as he is training with them. Same with Kevesic who is on the bench.

Still those injured who have not played hope Joe is being paid and the club and not an rfu dodge. Joe is going to play both sides of the scrum on Friday.

I'm not so sure about that final poi nt. Cole is starting and Sinck is on the bench. The only way they could do that would be is Cole gets subbed & Genge comes on, then later in the game Sinck subs out Joe. I can't believe that EJ will want less than 40mins from Cole, so even if he's swapped at half time, Joe will have probably at best 20 mins at TH before Sinck comes on. There's a real chance that the number of scrums in that time could be as low as Boris Johnson's current (lack of) majority...

Starting to feel like Joe (Marchant) is odds-on favourite to be the first injury replacement for England. Really happy for him that he's right in the mix - if it wasn't for JJ's world class years of service, his recent lack of game time would have seen Marchant on the plane from the start. Marchant's been the joint-form 13 (with Slade, who's a very different player) in England for some time.

Jones must be wanting to look at him as replacement for Slade and Nowell. As he can cover 13 and wing. He could be first in for either of those if they call off crook and have to withdraw.

Very interesting to see Kevesic on the bench. He covers all back row positions.

Marchant deserves his start, and arguably deserved more of a run out to compete with JJ.

But (broken record, I know) unless we see Watson or McConnochie put in an assured performance covering fullback at the weekend, the back that Eddie really should have at the top of his reserve list is Brown.
