I should clarify that I've done it in my local when paying my tab. You're right in so much as if it's tied to a transaction, you might have to break down the order into 2.

And I (wrongly, it seems) assumed all banks had the £100 limit. Surprised some do and some don't as Apple Pay seem to highlight it as a perk of their payment method.

Yeah that's what i mean -- they're not going to be able to split a till transaction to fit like you can at a pub when they divide a bill.

Contactless you're stuck with £30, Apple Pay your bank can agree to increase the limit but it's on a bank by bank basis.

Apologies I wasn't trying to point out you'd got it wrong, I've been using Google pay for a long time and wrongly assumed the limit was £30, so checked if there was a limit set by my bank and there isn't an upper limit. Although some shops may not accept payment greater than £30
I've also found out I don't need to unlock my phone for payments up to £30.

Personally I don’t do or will do contactless until comes the day I have to. Until then I will pay via card machine in the usual way. Hopefully something can be done to find a way around this issue in anycase

I'm the opposite, I resent every time I have to enter my pin number and it feels like being trapped in the 1990s.

Fair enough and rightly so to feel that way, but again I prefer the “good ol’ way” especially with hiccups like the £30 limit etc to contend with at this current time of going contactless. Loved the 90’s too, great time to be alive! 🤘🏽

No dramas - I had got it wrong!

Contactless is amazing tech and should be embraced. We installed it at our rugby club and it was a revelation. We now pretty much do all transactions by card. Sped up our bar massively, which is massive for us on international days.

More to the point with cashless bar transactions it will stop anyone being short changed.  It happened twice last season to me.  The first time I am sure it was by accident but on the second occasion I am as sure as I can be that it was deliberate.  When you are given more coins than necessary and they know you are likely to put the shrapnel straight into your pocket ....Looked very knowing when I counted it in from of him.

Quins moving into the a new era and leaving the dinosaurs behind.  No offence intended

I think you are giving the bar staff too much credit to say they could deliberately shot change someone.

What hiccup? You just put your card in - it's still quicker than waiting for the bar staff to count out 7.50 in change.

I'm not sure how the swipestation necessarily would be any faster than contactless payments that Quins have gone for. With what Tiggers now have, you need a phone (rather than your membership card or contactless debit card):

Tiggers Way
Launch the app on your phone, pay on your phone (presumably by having your debit card registered with the app).
Go to the swipestation & print out your voucher/receipt/whatever they call it
Go to the Bar/Outlet & queue there to be served.
Present the voucher to the staff
Staff then pour drink & hand it over to you & you walk away.

Quins way
Go to bar/outlet & queue to be served
Ask for your beer/food & the staff serve you.
Tap your Debit card/Membership Card/Smartphone on the card reader to pay.

I'd say the Quins way was better!

What they didn't mention was the ridiculous queing lines in the king's bar. So where you'd have had 300 people on the bar you can now have about 30. Let's see how that goes on proper matchdays.

And no prepoured pints. And everyone has to leave the bar at the same metre wide exit. Good thinking.
