It just seems a bit stupid signing a scrum half of landajo quality with 80+ international caps to sit on the bench and take up the salary cap.

Why are we not using the salary budget to sign a international hooker to start with 80+ international caps...

for me the landajo signing suggests care will leave after his two year contract and landajo is actually the future long term first choice, with care will helping him settle in for a year after the World Cup and going to France to make some big money.

Nope, I don't see it this way at all. Especially the way Gussy has been rotating players this season, with noticeable effectiveness. Care and Landajo will share the game time, with Care taking a majority of starts across the season. But this enables Gussy to bring our 21 on with 50 mins on the clock as opposed to making Care play 70/80 every game. A perfect signing if you ask me.

Also, if we go by your speculation, by the time Care leaves in the summer of 2021, Landajo will be 32. So I don't think he's being lined up as DC's long term successor. And the speculation about Care heading to France is just that - there's no actual reason to believe that will be the case, but even if it is then that's 2 years for Saunders to develop (and Waters if he's staying).

Landajo is just what we needed and I feel like he maybe wasn't as expensive as you might think - he came from Jaguares so I doubt they were even paying him a bog standard Prem wage. But again, that's just speculation and my gut instinct.

I'm sure mulchrone will be happy with your suggestions, he's shows huge potential and many clubs will be after his signature if he doesn't get game time!!

Surely you would rather a hooker with the same international experiance as landajo??

I didn't know this but Lambert been playing with Cheeseman at Richmond this season. Hence why he been hardly considered. Waters has taken time out of Rugby for a while with family issues.

I watched Cheeseman a few weeks back and he deft improved, his running is next to none.

Mulchrone is nearly thirty. A little late to be showing potential, acknowledging that he was a late bloomer.

As has been mentioned multiple times in this thread and all over the board, Mulchrone is rumoured to be leaving (as is Dave Lewis). So now can you see the logic?

Gussy wants quality over quantity - hence goodbye Mulchrone and Lewis, hello Landajo. It's not rocket science.

Even if Mulchrone is staying, he's the same age as Landajo and Landajo is an 84-cap international with real verve and confidence about his game. He's a class act. So I think the pecking order would be pretty clear to everyone - which is presumably part of the reason Mulchrone is supposedly leaving...

We also have Will Evans coming from Tigers according to Fissler.

Yep, added as it appeared that Evans had been missed of the list of who is arriving at the Stoop.

The future doesn't look to bring if we are planning it around someone who will be 32 by the time he is first choice... Your theory doesn't really sit well with me

Didn't realise Lambert was playing at Richmond. Rather odd. Assumed he was injured, but then I believe he was one of a few guys released to help at an England camp, presumably as human tackle bags. It's also his testimonial year, so not sure if that means he'll be playing next season, or just having a testimonial year or which he'll only be a professional player for a few more months

I believe (but stand to be corrected) that Lambert was going to leave/retire at the end of last season.  However, he signed a new deal to stay on but was on a much reduced salary.

Indeed - and therefore isn’t available all the time

Not entirely clear what you mean but if you think he’s been brought in to be first choice at some point that’s the mistake. He clearly hasn’t.

I can only think that noah was talking to Ben about Mulchrone? But I, too, am a little fuzzy on that one...
