Mike Brown taken out in the air?
« on: Saturday 29-Dec-2018, 22:30* »
It's a question as I dont know the answer.

On the big screen it seemed that a Wasp palye got underneath him in a half hearted attempt at going for the ball. No reaction from the officials!!  I'veseen red cards given for less on the basis that you have to be seen to challenge for the high ball.

So I dont know why it was not reviewed by the officials?

Can anyone enlighten me?

I agree. I was waiting for something to happen (or rather, the game to stop) but the game carried on and the officials did nothing. I can't explain it.

I thought the Wasps player was lucky, didn't seem to have much interest in going for the ball but as it was a Wasps player it was ok in the eyes of Dallaglio

He never bothered jumping and ran into Brown's legs - another ref gives that a red.

According to Wayne BArnes with Flats on Channel 5 because Bassett was on the ground he won’t be penalised. BArnes was there as his mentor, just a shame he did not ref it would have been a more fluid game. Maxwell Keys got drawn into the game (that Barnes not me)

There was another incident that also wasn't looked at. Brown made a break and before being tackled he put through a grubber which went into touch. But he was then taken out (by Carr I think) with a no arms shoulder charge. At least that's how it looked to me.

It was Carr and it wasn't the only time in the match he failed to use his arms in the match. It will be interesting to see how many citings there are.

Interesting and of course he will be right.  But it's also one of those 50:50 calls. Basset might have been on the ground but he had his arm up in the air as though he was going for the ball but not looking at/for it. Arguably the arm was instrumental in MB's demise?

Surely the fact that he is on the ground is worse as if he was in the air it might be deemed as fair competition. There was a fair bit of niggle going on in the game by all accounts and I wonder if that’s what got to Wardy but he wasn’t subtle enough. Will have to watch the game back and see.

We've seen plenty of people carded for not getting off the ground and running into a player's legs.

But didn't Mike run into him?

Dallaglio's commentary is hilariously biased on this one! "Is it a case of brown jumping into him, or Bassett holding his ground." Wasps can do no wrong in this mans eyes

Aaron Morris got a card in a game last year when a winger jumped over him in similar circumstances.
