Minty's gone
« on: Tuesday 24-Jul-2018, 16:38* »
Announced this afternoon:

Nick Easter leaves Harlequins

I'm guessing Gussy's looking after Defence at least in the short term.

I usually rely on Twitter for Quins news, seems they've decided not to tweet this yet.

Club legend but feel like he should have honed his coaching skills elsewhere before returning to us. Our defence last season really was poor.

All the best for the future Minty!

Not terribly surprising.
Not sure about his "promising coaching carrer" didn't they see our defence last season?
Oh well, best of luck Minty, legend as a player, think he would have been better off going elsewhere, down the leauges probably, to earn his coaching spurs first.

Can only really agree with the above. Legend as a player, seemed to do well as a coach with Wimbledon, but should never have been given such an important role for his first full time coaching job. It's a shame for him as it slightly taints his legacy.

I'll choose to remember all he did as a player, forget his coaching, thank him for what he's done for the club over so many years and wish him all the best

He had been coaching at Esher (I think?) for a couple of years before hanging up his boots. I think he was rushed a bit too quickly up into Premiership level. Give him a few more years at Nat1 & Championship level to develop & I reckon he'll become a coach in demand, just not yet.

FF, are you getting him confused with Williams.  I think Easter was involved at Wimbledon but that is it??

I may well be! I wasn't sure of the club, which is why I included the: (I Think)...

He will always be up there with the Quins greats and I love the bloke for everything he has done in a players shirt for Quins but as said above was put in to a position he wasn't ready for. Whether players didn't listen to him or his defence system was pants, either way coach should have sorted it out over 2 years, maybe too close to the players to get something sorted, Good luck Nick.

Arguably the best Quins player since I've been attending. Shame he's moving on. Thanks Nick.

Nick Easter has been a part of Quins since before I was a supporter. Only just, but still. Thanks, Nick, and good luck for the future.

As I said a while back. That's the 3 gone that I was told (Rowntree, Osborne, Easter). Strange the way it's taken so long, though. Mapletoft is a lucky boy in my book.

It's probably a mixture of factors: Coming to the agreed separation settlement, hand-over time of responsibilities, Gussy & Codling's "settling in" period, etc.

As man and player for Quins I am gutted to see him leave and Wish him all the best.

As a coach i’m Glad he’s gone i do not see what he brought us as a coach.

I truly believe he was set up to fail.

Still no mention on the club's social channels. Trying to bury bad news in such an obvious way is disgraceful for such a loyal servant to the club, he deserved better.
