Excellent the more experience he gets the better and for sure he needs a job.

Wouldn’t wish unemployment on anyone having been through it but it doesn’t reflect particularly well of either a) his ability or b) his reputation (one or other or both) that he’s not found a regular gig since getting the boot does it?

Does me me wonder why we experimented other than a misplaced sense of loyalty.

Doesn't reflect well? He got a job very quickly after being let go, helped them win the Currie Cup, and now has been added to the Super Rugby coaching team.

There’s an interview with Minty on a podcast (sorry but I forget which one) where he says he was with the Sharks post Quins, then his wife had a baby, and that he was in negotiations to rejoin the Sharks.

I think it was the Haskell one. It was certainly an interesting listen. He came across very well. Didn't realise his grandfather was a Springbok international.

Ok so he had a job, then didn't, now does. And has moved country.

There was plenty of discussion at the time about why we gave him a major coaching role straight off the pitch with very little experience.

I'm simply wondering if the club didn't maybe put him in a bad situation by doing so.

He certainly did a very bad job for us which may or may not have been his fault alone.

The podcast was “House of Rugby” on Joe, and here’s a link to the YouTube version:

Minty was also very good on the Times rugby podcast - which is good. I've actually started to like Stephen Jones after listening to it....

I thought the problem wasn’t that Minty didn’t know what he was doing, more a case of not all the players  bothering to listen to or carry out his methods. If there was no back up for Minty from above then it makes him look bad. Gussy is a defence coach of the highest order so we didn’t need Minty. He will gain from new challenges and experiences anyway.

Very difficult to coach people you have played with all those years much better to have a break somewhere else and then go back in my opinion
