Model will have to change - Times podcast

Discussion with LoL, Mark Evans, Owen Slot and dear SJ
Salient points: current situation is a game changer, possible National union could go under as some have no assets, Possible club(s) could go under Might suit CVC to loose 1 as we have 13 as this is better business model. Of course some Clubs don’t own grounds either.
Premiership won’t get any broadcast money so will CVC step in at some point to rescue their 27% investment? Clubs except for Chiefs have little reserves and in current situation can’t sell season tickets (ME said that) According to LOl (Director of Wasps) the CVC money was not to be spent on players nor pay off owners overdraft. Hence our screens I suppose with big discount for becoming a partner! They all think the game will come back stronger as people will appreciate what they missed? Not sure I entirely agree with this as with everything going on has not been a very inspiring season.

The trouble with Rugby is that clubs have different models and companies in many cases unique so that if the playing side goes bust, then the debt can't be called in against other parts of the club. Just look at London Welsh and that is a guideline to the way most premiership sides are run.

What this means is that if Quins lose £3m on the rugby side it shows as a loss, However, the other parts of the Quins family (different companies) may make a large profit. This means its not always possible to know exact financial positions of many of the clubs.

I wouldn't feel too sympathetic towards clubs, as the people that own them all have and will have much more money than most of us, so don't fall for any of their sob stories.

I feel that this is an opinion which varies from club to club and fan to fan.

The World Cup was incredibly popular and I’d imagine French national fans are having a pretty good season.

Likewise, Sale, Irish and Bristol fans will be generally happy whilst I can see how Tigers fans will be glad to get this season over.

Even the Sarries debacle is finally bringing some form of closure to a long-running scourge of the league.

Last season, the final few rounds were riveting because so many teams could (and were) win any game. This season looked to be equally close which makes it even more gutting that the season probably won’t reach much of a conclusion.

Mark Evans seemed to think that the whole thing is broken.
