A new revenue stream

The club's now working with Matt Hopper on a new way to use the Stoop on non-match days, apparently...

What do stadiums currently use their space for on non match days?

I know some host conferences, weddings, conventions, fitness and dancing clubs as well as concerts

I do wonder if the Stoop is restricted in what it can do. It would be sensible for The Stoop to host events on a smaller scale to the Big Stoop/Twickenham/HQ (I even heard rugby league supporters call it the Death Star) and once I volunteered at an event hosted in HQ south stand aimed at pensioners giving dancing classes, information detailing services available in the borough and they put on some lunch. But does the layout of the Stoop as it currently stands give many options for any of the above events. Actually the event i just mentioned I volunteered at used to be at The Stoop but it got too big and was split between the West and East stands which did not make it practical, particularly on cold wet days.

I just had a look on the website and they are focusing events on conferences, dinners, weddings, Christmas parties, exhibitions, exams, wakes and filming.

One of our team had his wedding at the Stoop and I had my 40th in the Members' Bar. If memory serves there was also a taekwondo conference going on under the DHL stand that day. Blood donors use the Debenture Lounge.

What I do like about the Stoop as an indoor venue is the range of spaces available from a box for a small meeting to opening up the whole of one side (eg Debenture Lounge, Undercroft and Players' Lounge)

Corporate and private events. I don't think it's marketed well enough though (that's the industry I work in).

And the facilities aren't really up to it.

They're going to have to hire people who are a lot better at this stuff if they really want to make money. Events, marketing, comms - they all need to be much more professional.

We are also competing with Twickenham Stadium, would you prefer a conference in Twickers or the Stoop?

I was with some people on Monday, they said they use The Stoop for functions. It is about one third the price of Twickenham Stadium. They named the person they deal with, whom they thought was first class. I have forgotten her name, but Ii can find out if anyone is interested.

I should imagine that the Stoop can be more flexible with spaces and prices than perhaps HQ can. It is also smaller.

The facilities are fine, depending on what you want to do there. But yes, they could be better.

As for Twickenham... Not the greatest to deal with. I tried to book a large event there and they are really difficult to deal with, inflexible and unreasonable.

As a comparison, Allianz Park has excellent facilities and are great to work with.

HQ is way too big for a lot of things people want (and they're up themselves)....

But yes, totally agree - Allianz Park is exactly what we should be looking to emulate with the new stadium.

fair enough, I haven't needed to book with them and I'm unlikely to but it looked a straight forward process with online booking for smaller meetings, lots of rooms and extras like stadium/museum tours.
