If history is anything to go by, our big name centres have limited impact and game time (remember Abbot, Ollie Smith, Luscombe, de Wet Barry?) and our best performances have come with a combination of home grown talent and players unearthed from lower leagues (JTH, Lowe, Hopper).

Of course, we *may* get lucky and Saili and Tapuai stay fit for long enough that Lasike gets time in the A league and the odd bench slot. But it's likely given the past few seasons that we will see him fairly regularly, and I am excited to see what he can do alongside Smith and Marchant.

Of course, this is Quins, so it could still all go wrong, but I have not yet reached the point where I am going to look for the negatives in everything before a ball has been kicked in anger.

And I hope I never do. Maybe it's just the way online comments come across, but the apparent unwillingness of a small hard core on this board to allow even a little bit of optimism go unpunished is off-putting to me as a long term fan and must be a serious deterrent to new members.

Yes we don't have a great record with centres brought in, although a certain Will Greenwood didn't do too badly.

Either way -- couldn't Smith, Lang at 10, 12 be the real future?

You'd hope that's a long term option but my fear is that Lang will move up to Edinburgh/Glasgow now that he's been signed up for Scotland duty by Townsend. Obviously pure speculation from the gut and nothing more. Personally, I hope they both stay and embed themselves as our immediate and longer term future at 10/12.

Amusing twitter spat.

Interesting that we're potentially getting hium and HAssler, so presumably a few bit of room under the cap. Or maybe it's one or the other?

I did think we were light at centre, especially with Saili's ongoing injury woes.

Is he injured just seen an interview with him looking forward to the first game

Surely the biggest consideration has to be that he left NZ for a rugby scholarship in the US.
So I’m happy to speculate that although he is a kiwi that has grown up with a ball in his hands and has more skill, because of this, than other players. He wasn’t in huge demand....

I don’t see him replacing Roberts at all, that was what Taps was signed for.

I think he is a squad pick up, much like Stanley, that may just turn into something.

Hope he does, otherwise let’s hope he isn’t sucking on the cap like Luamanu or Saili in a seasons time.....

Personally, I think he is a good punt, right money, right size, right option. Quite a Sarries pick.... hope it comes off.
