As I thought. Good luck to him. I have a feeling he will become an excellent coach.

Good luck Nick a legend at Quins

I wish he had said the reasons he felt he could not influence the team - would have been interesting

When Minty had his Quinssa evening he alluded to that problem, he said they were trying to introduce a new system and some players were struggling to make it work , especially when under pressure .  I think it was clear to see that our 'scramble' defence  didn't work  ( and our non scramble !)

Hopefully better or clearer delivery will have the desired effect .

I think its  a great move for him to get some SH experience , shame we had to get rid of him altogether,  a couple of seasons in New Zealand , as part of our 'arrangement' , and then coming back would have been a good thing .

I suspect this role might have been arranged with the clubs assistance. Cut his teeth elsewhere and develop skills before returning to UK. The wording by club when his departure was announced seemed to me to be leaving the door open...

Club legend on the pitch....

disaster as a defence coach.....

IMO promoted too early and role was beyond his abilities, good players don't necessarily make good coaches.

I rather suspect that he couldn’t influence what was going on because he wasn’t being allowed to in the way he wanted not because the players couldn’t get it or do it. My sources (ugh) tell me that he was a serious troublemaker and had to go. Interesting that he said to Sharks that he didn’t want to step on anyone’s toes, we’ll see.

I get the impression that Minty was full of new ideas and very enthusiastic in his championing of them but that some key people (players and colleagues) didn't buy into it for whatever reason.

Unfortunately a lesson for Minty in not trying to run before you can walk.

When he has developed further I would have him back like a shot.
