O/T Dai Young's been given the elbow

The article says he's not ;left Wasps, just moved aside from the DoR role. While I can understand the thought, I don't like the idea of DoRs being sacked at the same pace that Football Managers are subjected to.

He’s been DoR at Wasps for nearly 10 years.

Most football managers do very nicely out of being sacked.

Aha!

The BBC article suggests a different circumstance than assumed above:

Wasps director of rugby Dai Young is to 'step back' from first-team duties with the Coventry-based Premiership club for an unspecified period

Considering the players they’ve lost and they are clearly skint I think he’s done a good job

I’d be happy with him at quins if Gustard moved on

Dai Young nearly got the Quins job not Conor many years ago they were the last two on the short list so he is not likely to apply again. Hope he is being paid as he has sacrificed everything for Wasps when they nearly went under and paid for equipment for the team.

That's over 10 years ago, though, and the entire management team and nearly all the playing squad have changed since then (IIRC only Browny, Danny, Marler, Lambo and the Robshaws remain from that era).

This has also come at an awkward time for Dai in that the post-RWC reshuffles are largely done. If he is leaving Wasps (and that's not entirely clear - all they have said is that he's stepping back and it's not clear why yet or whether it's permanent), then he's probably in a position where it makes sense to consider any that might be on offer. Which doesn't necessarily mean there's one at Quins.

The Coventry Telegraph article which is quoted in the original link talks of Young being “relieved of first team duties” so it would appear that it wasn’t his choice.

It’s not health related is it. It would seem odd to step back.

Just looked on Wasps board only comment is that this is for a period of time but apparently he has been limping. Time will tell and really hope he is ok.

Delaglio said on Sunday that the club had decided that it needed to take a new direction to move forward in the future.
