It's horribly predictable that a thread about the best players of the decade has so swiftly descended into a discussion about the worst.

I preferred the side-argument about what a decade was. :)

Given that to a large extent the 1st choice team sort of picks itself, here's my attempt at the unsung hero XV from the last 10 years

1. Mark Lambert
2. Tani Fuga
3. Ceri Jones
4. Big Kev
5. Charlie Matthews
6. Robshaw (for being criminally underrated by everyone outside of Quins)
7. Will Skinner
8. Tom Guest
9. Karl Dickson
10. Molly Malone
11. Gonzalo Camacho
12. Gonzalo Tiesi
13. Matt Hopper
14. Tom Williams
15. Ross Chisholm

Many names that are hard to overlook. JJ did a lot for Quins, as did Mike Ross. Will Skinner would probably have gone on to greater things had it not been for injury. Stretts was pretty impressive in his brief time with us. Ceri Jones? Chris Brooker was highly rated until a bad injury which IIRC robbed him of an England call up.

For a bit of controversy, hooker - I think Elia is improving game by game, and on his day is as good as Joe Gray was. Consistency will see him locked in at first choice IMO.
Chris Brooker was not good.

Most of your alternatives barely featured this decade. Certainly in the conversation for team of the noughties.

Gray consistently threw at 90% during his peak for us. A few one off games and 10 minute periods are not enough. Elia is nowhere near yet.

Not sure how underrated Robshaw has been at 6. When Jones came in and moved him, I seem to remember the general opinion was how much more suited he was to that position than to 7.

Elia is a much better all round player in my opinion. Throwing isn't all that a hooker does.

As for the earlier point about Brooker, I thought he was called up to the England squad just before he was injured?

Brooker was one of those who blew hot and cold but then hit a really decent run of form which sadly came to an abrupt end in horrible fashion.

Like many of our hookers who hit a patch of good form and look like they might finally be a clear first choice but then get injured, lose form or the lineout falls apart again

Yareet- maybe I’ve forgotten it but I don’t remember Robshaw ever getting written up in the same way that Curry or Underhill were at the World Cup, despite being at their level for a decade.

Chisholm R makes a late but strong case to take OLH’s 15 shirt in the alternative side of the decade. Had a nightmare this evening.
