Not to mention the thrower always standing on or in front of the line at every line out (directly in front of the touch judge), and I won’t even mention crooked feeds.

Actually, that game is a prime candidate for this thread. Carley made some big calls and every one of them was painfully wrong.

It'll take a concerted effort by at least one club to tackle every player in front of the ball carrier!
Hit them, hit them hard as they won't be expecting it!
They'll moan, they'll groan that they've been tackled off the ball etc.
Captain has to be primed, by coaches, to tell ref that they will continue to tackle any players ahead of the ball carrier....!
Ref will threaten yellow cards, penalties etc, but the team should continue.

Pre season "friendlies" would be a good place to practice!!

Actually, even better, tell the ref in the pre match coaches meeting what the team has been told to do....see what they do!

Penalties.

If you're kicking for goal, refs are rightly pedantic that the lick is taken from his mark.

If you're kicking for touch, it's more a case of "what mark?" Players take 2,3,4 steps past the mark....why????

Also, when kicking penalties for touch, sometimes the AR seems to pick a place where it goes out at random.On Sunday, the AR was probably stood around 25 metres away from where the ball actually went out and then took a guess at where they thought that it went over the line.
I think that in most cases, issues that we would refer to as poor ref decisions are usually caused by the AR not helping the ref. e.g. policing offside

To me, they try to pick somewhere with a line beside it so one team has to stand on the line. The trouble is ARs don't signal anything but foul play and offside. So if they do have a quiet word with the ref via their mics, we don't know it, unless the ref acknowledges it and we have ref link. So we think "useless damn AR - join in the game" when in fact they may be doing a good job.
