Well, at least until the game starts. :)

Certainly my optimism is likely to disappear after Exeter get the ball, yeah!

Exeter supporter in peace.

Pearce is, of course, from Exeter, but I don't think that this fact influences him when reffing us, unless to make him more strict on us.  I agree with all the above about Carley though I do think that he has improved recently so far as his decisions are concerned; but he is deeply unsympathetic.

I'm afraid I don't rate Dickson at all and think it very wrong of the RFU to appoint him to such a significant game when it involves ex-teammates.

IMO all games should be officiated by clearly neutral officials so Hull wouldn't have been allowed to be the citing officer at our game v Sale as Bristol could have benefitted from his decisions if you guys hadn't stuffed them in the most joyous manner.  Frankly, after last Saturday I wouldn't mind losing to you after what you did to Bristol  ;D ;D  It was almost certainly the best game of rugby I have seen or participated in in 55 years of playing and watching.

Not fussed about Pearce being from Exeter and reffing Exeter. I'm from Exeter and I want you to lose! :) Wayne Barnes is a local boy for Quins and doesn't exactly favour us - I don't think the local connection matters so much. Fairly recent ex-players yes, and sadly I think Karl's been overpromoted a bit as this hasn't been his finest season.

I’d prefer Carly Simon to Matthew Carley as the ref.
Just hoping we aren’t robbed by another Steve Lander- type moment.

Lives locally but hardly a local boy

Karl also seems to get a lot of snide remarks, as actual or implied criticism of his decisions, from the BT commentators: Kay, Dallaglio, Healey, etc. Always wondered why that might be. Maybe they think he's been over-promoted (just in terms of speed of promotion).

That was totally and unbelievably awful. As close as one ought ever to get to saying we were "cheated" out of winning that day.

Matthew Carley's so vain, he'll probably think this thread is about him.

:D :D That made me giggle. Another chiefs perspective, we also are not impressed with the choice of officials'. In my opinion there are two outstanding refs, Barnes and Pearce, one of them should be in charge of the showpiece event of the season.  Both are good at letting the game flow and seem to have more empathy with the players. To save any possible accusations of bias i'd have given it to Barnes. Luke went to Exeter College, who also run the academy so may have come across a few of the players in his time there. In fairness though I have never felt he's favoured us before.

Regarding the appointment of Karl, it's not really the club allegiance that bothers me, more the fact he is not very good!

Lets hope that we have a good game, not one decided by cards or dodgy decisions.

Your win against Bristol raised a few smiles down here, an excellent performance. Please can you let us go 28-0 up!

Amen to that.
Are you sure that's what you want? We Harlequins are never more dangerous than when we're 28-0 down...
