Refs night last night....
« on: Tuesday 09-Apr-2019, 11:38* »
At a Refs night with a host of Premiership Refs and they were not very complimentary about us!! Sink came in for particular abuse, our DOR and general discipline got a bit of a kicking!!!!! Not great to hear frankly!!!

It’s not a secret that we have chippy players - Care, Sink, Brown, Joe, Ward to name but a few.

We’ve also finally got some attitude thanks to Gustard which I welcome.

But our penalty count sadly is there for all to see.

Nothing to be ashamed off shows Tigers have lost their mojo from the days of the ABC club and no Dean Ryan, Gareth Archer to name just a few ...

Was this the evening at Teddington RFC? Shows that refs go into games with pre-conceived ideas, which is perfectly understandable, but presumably takes a long time to reverse. Really not ideal when they don't like your new DoR

I find it hard to believe that refs don't like Gussy. Compare him to Steve Diamond for instance. Chalk and cheese.

We're clearly out of tune with what refs want to see, but I'm continually frustrated with what other sides get away with in terms of flopping over the ball and offside. It's also a bit worrying if they are going in with preconceptions - not least because it leads to errors like the Dombrandt interception on Friday - WB could have let that play out and then gone back to check the offside rather than blow instantly, and if Quins were perceived differently by refs he might have done.

No idea how we change that, but it has to be a priority for the off-season.

That decision was studied in depth, clearly not a ruck, just a tackle, Ref put his hand up and said he may have got that wrong!

Wayne Barnes has helped us a number of times in training, telling us what refs want and how they view certain offences. We maybe need to get him in again and go through some of the recent games pointing out why we were penalised when other teams don't attract that kind of penalty count.

That’s why we never get much from them, they don’t like us. Makes sense now.

Refs come in regularly to talk to the players I don’t know if Wayne is one but Karl has been in as well as others

Had a long chat with Dicko, top lad. Fascinating thoughts on Owens! :) JP reminded Dicko what an absolute nightmare he was to ref while at Quins too! :)
