There is some real quality in the teams that are towards the bottom of the table. The warriors back line is good. Bristol also have some talent. The bottom of the table teams are actually quite good this season

There's a chance Tigers could be bottom in a round or two!
Had a chat with a Tigers fan at Welford Road some seasons ago who was boasting about the size of the crowd they get.
When I asked him what sort of crowd they'd get if they stopped winning trophies he replied "that would never happen".

In his defence, they should win one next season.

For winning the Championship 🤣🤣

No whipping boy this year and how different it all looks. With the money Bristol spent it seemed unlikely that they'd fall through the trap door though its still possible.

I think Leicester will get out of it. I know they look listless but there's definitely a performance in there (hopefully not on May 3rd).  I'd like Newcastle to stay up, and no real feelings for Worcester to be honest. Whoever goes down will walk the Championship anyway.

Is anyone across this ring fencing idea? As in is it still an idea or is it going to happen, we just don't know when?

Last I heard was that there would be relegation this season and possibly a play-off between last place and Championship winners after that, which IMHO is effectively ring-fencing anyway, especially as I believe extending the Premiership to 13 teams is also on the cards. Has all gone a bit quiet, though.

I can't see any agreement to a play-off between the Championship winner & 12th Place Premiership team. Exeter are pretty much the only team who were promoted to the Premiership during the years when Championship playoffs were in place that managed to kick on. All the others have tended to yo-yo between the bottom few places in the Prem & the top of the Championship.

This is partly down to the fact that if you don't know if you're coming up until the end of the season, it's hard to put together a team that can compete. Exeter managed it by dint of planning for the long term & having financial backing that was willing to pay what was needed.

Before you say "Ah, but look at Us, or Saints, or Bristol this year", all those teams knew they were promoted well before the end of the season & could start planning, talent scouting etc when players were on the market.

How would 2 down and 2 up work? In a Relegation Playoffs system like at the top of the Prem?

Not that I'm a conspiracy theorist, but I suspect these things don't get decided whilst there is only a risk that the "wrong" team may be relegated...

The Telegraph is reporting that the RFU have vetoed the idea of ending Promotion & Relegation. Unfortunately I've used up my one article a week free subscription so can't read/copy the whole article...
