Rugby League Back at The Stoop?
« on: Tuesday 29-Jan-2019, 08:20* »
I hear that we may well be getting Rugby League back at the Stoop?

My apologies if this has already been done.

Really? I thought the Broncos were settled into Ealing's ground for the foreseeable, and the Skolars wouldn't be likely to up sticks from Barnett at the potential loss of support. Is it just a "RL is coming back to the Stoop" or is there any more detail in the rumour?

My personal rumour monger told me that.....

Broncos have been promoted to the XYZ league this coming season.
They are expecting bigger crowds.
Their existing ground can't cope with the anticipated crowds.
They are building a new stand.
The new stand won't be ready for the start of the season.
They may/will/won't/could play some of their home games at the Stoop.

If it's all cobblers I will blow in my informants ear next time I see him.

I could understand some of that as a rumour, but a few counter factors are that even now they're in the Superleague again this year, they still have very small crowds, and RL fans "Oop Norf" think travel along the M62 corridor to be very hard, let alone to the "treacherous Big Smoke" for away games. I doubt that they'll need a potential alternative ground.
Broncos are listing their fixtures as being at Trailfinders ground, selling tickets to the games that start this w/e. I doubt they'd move it at the eleventh hour. Their second home game clashes with our game on the 16th, and they're selling tickets for that too.
Basically, it *could* happen, but I very much doubt it.

First game is Sunday so I think this may not be true.  Although, with Ealing only holding around 4000 there could be a chance the bigger games are moved if a large away following are expected to rock up

I heard this from a Broncos fan a few days ago. I think it's from next season though.

Broncos home ground undergoing improvements

Ground developments are still ongoing under the direction of Trailfinders Sports Club, which London Broncos ground-share with Ealing, as preparations for the Broncos’ return to Super League continue to grow.

A new stand is currently being constructed at the ground, which will be behind one set of posts. It will contain 1,059 seats and will also include a bar.

Many had questioned London’s eligibility to play in Super League following their shock promotion, claiming their stadium would not pass Super League’s regulations on minimum standards.

A minimum of 2,000 seats are required under RFL rulings, but the new stand will see them exceed that total by over 200.

The Broncos were granted a dispensation by the RFL on the basis the work would be completed in time for their first home game of the season, and that is expected to be achieved by the start of the season, with their first home game against Wakefield Trinity on Sunday 3rd February.
