I was listening to an American football expert talking about Wade in the NFL on Talksport today. General gist was that he’s a bit small and it’s nothing like rugby. Most difficult bit would be learning every single play that’s called otherwise your in big trouble. He’s got a chance so I hope he makes it with his natural asset which is great speed off the mark. Apparently that’s what you need to be a running back. Whatever that is. Oh yeah, and being able to hang around doing nothing for a couple of hours.
There's an interview with Wade during Florida training, he's clearly pretty overwhelmed by how different it is and how there is so much more to it technically than rugby - excited, but it just looks like he's a bit "ok, didn't realise it was this technical"
Interesting stuff about how he doesn't have any of the muscle memory that players have to rely on (who have come up playing it) - he has to learn the whole playbook and it's all about exactly where he puts his feet, how many steps, that if you're told to get five yards, you get five yards, not four or six etc.
NFL really is chess with humans - love watching it but the players are there to do exactly what they're instructed. Not that it isn't a skill but I prefer the freedom of our sports in the end.
