Also talking about losing Liam Williams as will not be able to afford to keep him
And Sivo not joining as won’t be able to afford him
This really is starting to stink
he has also been offered huge money by Montpelier and Wales want him back!

Sarries board have got a piece from rugby pass on their site forecasting 35 points deduction for £650,000 overspend. Sarries site asking for incoming from other Clubs to bear in mind they are only supporters. Did they do that for the event that we don’t name? Perhaps someone cleverer than me can post. Forecast is Tuesday announcement

I think an effective punishment would be to strip them of any silverware won during the period of the proven breach. But I can't see it happening. Still, it's nice that the fans on their BB ask people to go easy on them (if my understanding is correct. I'm sure that nobody will take the p* out of them at all; not until all of the low-flying pigs have landed...

I have a feeling of sympathy for the Sarries fans' plea to not jump all over them. It's one thing to lambast their club here, should it prove to be in the wrong. However it's quite provocative to go over to their fans site and start shouting about it. The Saracens fans I have met are true rugby supporters, and I'm sure they'll not be happy with any underhand manipulation of the salary cap. And it's not as if the fans had any say in what went on, anymore than we got asked if we were happy with the team using joke shop blood capsules to manipulate the substitution rule.

Like most clubs they have a mixture of loyal & knowledgable fans and some less so- I've experienced both first hand. I think they attracted more than their fair share of 'johnny come lately' trophy hunters because of their enduring success too. I empathise with their genuine long-standing fans though who have committed no crime other than paying for their annual season ticket and getting behind their team. If Sarries do receive the punishments rumoured, I imagine Wray will stick two fingers up at the Prem and it will probably just precipitate an Anglo-French (+SA ?) superleague.

They’d have to persuade a couple of other clubs to join them (Bath and Bristol spring to mind) which is the easy part. Then they’d have to persuade the RFU to the new competition which is harder. Then they’d need to be prepared to be sued to the nth by CVC for devaluing their product. That is going to be a lot of money and time and probably not worth it in the long run.

Yes, I feel you're probably right there. Unless CVC get terribly excited by the European Super league idea themselves?

Unfortunately, whilst I've met some Sarries fans who are genuine rugby fans, I've met too many of the other end of the scale. Happy to sling mud (STILL bringing up b****gate), and totally dismissive of any suggestion of wrngdoing by their own club. They also like to mouth off about how they will demolish Quins on the pitch, but speedily disappear after the several occasions when we've turned them over.

I'm loyal to Quins 100%, but will not defend the indefensible. I'll always support Quins, but will acknowledge when we're in the wrong, or when we're soundly beaten. Sarries fans that I've met usually seem even more blinkered than some posters on here!

Do teams need to adhere to the salary cap for the European Cup - or is it only for the Premiership?

In other words, could Saracens employ a whole load of marquee signings with large paychecks and only register them for the European completions and have a regular team that plays in the premiership?

If so, this would probably be a suitable compromise.  Sarries would be able to compete against the French clubs - but, on the other hand, the Premiership would still be competitive. It would probably also help the England team as the game time for the likes of Itoje could be managed as he would only be playing maybe 12 England games + maybe 7/8 European cup games per season.

It would make it very difficult for a team like Quins to win the European Cup - but maybe no harder than it is now.

Only the Premiership, however, this takes everyone into account. You have to name a squad for Europe but for the Premiership you can play anyone at any time, from your academy upwards... so that prevents the scenario you mentioned.

Andit would mean that Sarries would have n advantage in that their Prem players might only paly less than 20 games per season, unlike us mere mortal rule abiders...
