Ampthill is easy - it is in Bedfordshire, find the pitch when you get there is the challenge.  It is up a short path through the woods.

Rosslyn Park and Rams who are chasing Richmond for promotion from Nat 1 give fewer clues.
Rosslyn Park is well known and just off the South Circular.

Rams is the new name for Old Redingensians and is on the Bath Road in Sonning down the road from the MadStad. Do not get lost and go to Reading next door.

With 3 points between the sides and 11 games to go - all is to play for.

Please do go to Reading RFC and not Rams. Reading is my team although I’m a vet now.

Wray is behind all of this and it now looks like Venter, McCall and Sanderson were his lackeys.

...and Gustard?  :-[

I am quite sure he got out before it totally collapsed under the weight of its schemes.

He left in 2016 to take up England post. So was around for the first batch of cap breaching, but may not have been part of it and at that stage their line up wasn't nearly so galactic - much more nebulaic at that time.

Wasn't he in charge of recruitment during his time there?

I don't fully know, but talent spotting and remuneration officers may be different parts of a rugby club - but they are related.

When I used to want to hire/interview and select which person the team I managed needed, the MD and HR decided the pay, partly by "grade" or position advertised, partly by our immediate need and partly on how hard it was to attract that person/similar people. I would have inputs, but the final package was not my decision.

Remuneration is usually a sensitive subject in most companies - usually dealt with my senior management and HR

... It was the wolves that the then-defensive coach Paul Gustard brought to a team meeting to illustrate the club’s “pack” mentality...

So bloodgate was in 2009, and related to a single game. The investigation then found similar practices had been used in four previous games. That meant that Quins were found guilty of cheating in 5 games in total, and over 10 years later it is still be used against us.

Saracens have been found to have broken the rules in at least the last 3 seasons plus the current one, so four seasons in total. If, in that time, they have averaged 25 prem games per season (including post season), 5 prem cup games and 8 European games, that is 152 games in which they have operating outside of the rules.

On that basis, if Quins and Quins fans are being held to account for 5 games more than 10 years ago, how long do you think it will be acceptable to raise this about Sarries? 152 divided by 5 is 30+, so that would suggest about 300 years.

Saracens have refused to open their books. This could have been on-going for years. I heard on one podcast at least 6 years. The level of cheating conspired by Wray could have ben huge. There have been rumours of cars, holidays, houses, advertising 'deals' and even vineyards to supplement the salary. The salary cap was also broken by at least £2 million. What he has done is huge. The players must have known about it - how do they think a team full of international's all turned up? The likes of Farrell should be investigated to see what they knew and why, if they did, they did nothing about it.

Very well said Brian. Just listening to the BBC pod on this. Brendan Venter comes across as a very unpleasant bloke and completely in denial. Basically saying that Wray was naïve. No attempt to cheat, just couldn't say no to the players, probably didn't know how much he'd given them, was all in good faith wanting the best for the players, not trying to cheat in any way

I have to say that I didn't find Venter unpleasant.  The point he made that given the judgement was only made in November it was essentially impossible for Sarries to comply this season has some merit (assuming it all relates to different interpretations of co-invest - we don't know....).  However, I was disappointed that he was not called out on the fact Sarries Q&A after the original judgement strongly implied they were compliant this season when they clearly were not.
