Saracens haven’t sold out after all....
« on: Saturday 25-May-2019, 23:26* »
Bad jokes in the subject line aside...

Ideally without getting into the usual Sarries bashing (please) - this is a genuine question.

They are the best team in Europe, star studded team, playing decent rugby.

They couldn’t sell out a home semi final.

Why? I genuinely don’t understand it.

Looked and sounded like there was more Gloucester fans there. Had they done a “Munster”.

No, according to write ups Saracens just cant muster enough fans who want to pay to watch them play at home in a Premiership semi final.

So may have been lots of Gloucs (haven’t seen any of match) but match was not sold out with a capacity of 10k.

I think they play really good rugby.

I’ve been there a couple of times and certainly the visitors stands are not nice.  I suspect their new stand is great and the other 3 are from another era

If the single match tickets are priced remotely in line their Season Ticket prices were at the start of the season, I'm not surprised. The equivalent to our Premier and Gold seats were priced at approx £1000 and £1200 respectively.

It is still an athletics stadium at heart - and the track is wider than a pitch.

The reason is that its part of the original athletics stadium and the seats in front of it are mobile and moved in to position before a game and moved back after.

Ok...but none of which explains why they haven’t got enough fans to fill their own stadium.

We def had more fans than them in the stadium. We mostly filled out the stands while the glaws fans were mostly standing around the pitch. Full credit to them though, they were loud and lots of them, probably the best we’ve had at AzP. But to say there were more than them is quite frankly laughable (yes, I was there).

I always find it funny how on games like the champions cup final when we have loads of fans there, there’s never threads like this, but when we don’t, such as the bank holiday induced nightmare of Coventry, it’s always brought up.

All the unsold seats today were in the grim (probably an understatement) North stand, where for some reason we price it almost as high as the amazing south stand. I would certainly never pay the asking price to sit in that stand, especially near the top. Call me a fairweather fan, whatever.

Happily we’re taking steps to address this and replacing it with a new stand. If we can’t sell out the new North Stand for big games then I’d be worried

I thought that the North and South Stands were pretty much the same. or have I got the orientation of the ground wrong?

They have no local identity or history with the area which is not a rugby area in any way at all

Just looked it up, the largest stand is the East Stand.  The West Stand is where the players run out from and it’s that one that’s being redeveloped.

After the work the West Stand will hold 3,000 people and it will take the total ground capacity to 10,500.  That’s a rise of only 500 people.  It looks like the main gain is in boxes and other hospitality areas, plus the seats will be covered so presumably they can charge more for them.  The running track will still be there.

It looks like the North & South stands will have to stay temporary so the ground can be used as an athletics track.

Cheers - hence the question - and the “thread like this” was because of the national newspaper article wondering why the club couldn’t attract fans for a Prem semi final.
