Also very interesting to hear how he will be working alongside/almost under NEv. I guess he is bringing very particular specialisms to the fold at this stage while he adjusts to the intricacies of Union vs League. Really feel like he has the potential to be a key point of difference for us but as is the case with any of these code switch appointments, only time will tell...

The business analogy is accurate.

If you promote jack the lad, everyone’s mate and make them their manger - they can’t separate their allegiances and are seen as the ally of their mates by those who weren’t part of the circle.

He was a massive character as a player, you can easily see how it would help fuel divisions in a dressing room we suspected - and have had confirmed by players - was disfunctional,

Either way it doesn’t matter now - we’ve cleared them all out and can move on.

Do you think we might be preparing for Nick Evans to exit sometime soon? Wouldn't be the biggest surprise if he was planning to return to NZ.

That would be surprising, given he only recently got UK citizenship (he posted a photo of his UK Passport last year.)

That might well be the case and I don't actually disagree with you that that is a very real potential issue - if I was running a business I'd be very wary of making promotions of that sort - but I've seen it happen at almost every company I've freelanced at. I don't think it's as much of an anomaly as you make out.

And, of course, NEv is still there. So we haven't cleared them all out. Ultimately, shouldn't we just judge him on the performance of the attack/back line and results of the team, regardless of how he may have come to be in that position? Just as all the other coaches are accountable for their particular remits.

Interestingly, at the evening Quinssa arranged with Nick Evans, when asked about the hardest thing about transition to coaching, he said it was changing the relationship with some of his 'mates'
He said they were a tight close group, and he had to make a conscious effort to decouple and take a good few steps back, as in his new role, he couldn't maintain the same matey matey relationship anymore.
Same went for his wife, which he said was a lot harder, the wives & girlfriends are also close, and he said she couldnt be as involved as before due to his new position...

Agree it’s done a lot and I’ve worked in places where it’s happened - and it was bloody awful......

That's probably what's coloured your perspective, then. Everywhere I've worked has done it quite successfully.

That would seem likely but...

In Easter’s case - just felt like giving the gang leader the keys to the prison.
