CHIEF EXECUTIVE LAURIE DALRYMPLE PROVIDES AN UPDATE FOLLOWING NEWS OF THE POSTPONEMENT
These are unprecedented and difficult times for all of us, on both personal and professional levels. However, the most important thing for everyone is to stay safe.
Yesterday’s announcement of the postponement of both the Gallagher Premiership, and the Women’s Tyrells Premier 15s, which follows last week’s Premiership Rugby Cup final suspension, is absolutely the right thing to do.
We have been working closely with Premiership Rugby to ensure we put welfare first; the welfare of our players, staff and supporters. And we will continue to do so to ensure the right decisions are made as part of the bigger picture. We have a responsibility to play in this.
I wanted to take this opportunity to offer some form of reassurance to our supporters that we are acting responsibly, sensibly and carefully to effectively deal with the impact of Coronavirus – as much as we can, and also to offer an update on our staff member who was reported as ill in the media ahead of the Premiership Cup Final:
- Firstly, the good news about our backroom staff member who was reported as suffering flu symptoms last Friday. We took the precaution of moving them into isolation and I am pleased to say they are feeling stable, if less than 100%, and displaying no further concerning symptoms.
- Since last Friday, all of our staff, where possible, have been told to work from home to reduce the risk of spreading and contaminating others. We will continue to do this across all aspects of the club. You can feel assured that every club department has the ability to work remotely.
- The Stoop and our training facilities at Surrey Sports Park have been closed for the last few days for a deep clean and visitors / non-core staff are being kept to a minimum.
- Other events and activities are being postponed until further notice, including the work of The Harlequins Foundation and our brilliant Community team as we announced yesterday. More information and clarity on postponements will be published in due course, where necessary.
It’s important, at times like these, that we stay strong, united and come together. We are also continuously looking at ways we can use the assets of the Club to help the community overcome the many challenges being faced currently.
Harlequins will be back on the pitch soon, don’t worry about that. But for now, we must follow the guidance to best protect everyone around us. We will continue to share information openly with you as the situation develops.
Challenges like this global pandemic are unusual and stretch us all, I could not be prouder of the hard work everyone at the Club is doing to help lead the Club through this difficult period, and I want to thank you all for your patience and continued support. But much more than that, your own health and welfare is paramount at this time, so we urge you all to keep safe, follow the NHS guidelines and to look after those around you.
Nunquam Dormio.
