On reflection I think games like Friday will be far better suited to the Cat at 10 - I think he's got a far more controlled kicking game than Smith at the moment. Games like last weekend, where we're at home on a fast track I'd be starting Smith. Not a bad option to have in the squad.

As has been pointed out the defence was excellent but a few silly mistakes meant that we never really put Northampton under pressure:

Giving away 3 points before halftime was criminal.
Giving away the penalty from the restart after we scored was equally poor.
And finally Lang has to make his conversion at the end - the amount of extra pressure that would have put on Saints could have been crucial.

That said - I'd have taken 6 points after 2 games before the season started, 2 really big games coming up that we should win.

'Bothma and Chisholm over Chisholm and White is the point he's making'

Thank you Radarius - I'm pleased someone understands 😁

Sorry Quinky, have had a busy weekend and only just saw your response.

I appreciate your point that if he doesn’t get the ball in space, he can’t show his best but I worry that he is too dependent on that rather than manufacturing his own opportunities.

Earle had the same service but still made things happen, little breaks and drawing defenders, Charlie was almost anonymous in the game. I worry that Quins have focussed more on his pace than his general game awareness.

Visser is so much better at that and Charlie should now be a bit wiser but isn’t showing that.

It's a fair point. Charlie needs to go looking for the ball when it doesn't get to him. I think his pace is phenomenal and when the ball gets to him then he's a great attacking threat. His workrate seems good, but maybe he's not doing enough of the right kind of work. Wingers by their nature tend to grab the spotlight when they play well. The fact that Charlie isn't grabbing the spotlight doesn't mean he's playing badly, but more that he's not involved enough. Hopefully that will change as he's a deadly finisher.

There is always a danger with "roving" wingers though; when they pop up in the right place, they are rightly lauded. But if there is a turnover and they are out of position, it can decimate the defensive system. Our defensive is massively improved, and I'd hate for it to be weakened in any way.

As I've said elsewhere, I disagree with the view of Visser. Thought he was busy.

And he switched to FB when Swiel went off early. So Ibitoye (who did play very well) outshone the U18 centre playing out of position, Harry Barlow.

Visser made a few errors and didn't feature in attack as much as you'd like. Not much use in using one game as a yardstick though. He's a proven major asset for Quins.
