From a super reliable close source.... he has two years left on his contract, but Northampton are sniffing about showing a keen interest.

I'm sure this is true but don't you think that in the current rugby world of big money and agents this is likely to be the case for most half decent players? There will always be someone, somewhere prepared to offer a player more money. They are like head hunters in the business world - its just up to the player to weigh up the pros and cons and decide if their rugby pitch really is really greener! Likewise Quins need to decide if a player is really worth keeping once their head has been turned by the new employer.

Money is the only obvious incentive.

Sinckler is our first choice tighthead and is used in a way that brings the best out of him, which in turn puts him in the frame to start for England. There are no valid ‘on-pitch’ reasons for him to leave and I’ve never got the impression that money is his main motivation.

I feel the same about Clifford, but I’m less concerned given the alternatives we have in the squad and the relative availability of good back rowers vs. Almost 0 tightheads with Sinckler’s all round skill set.

I suspect that you and I have the same "super reliable" source. Assuming that we have the same source, (and I might have this completely wrong, of course!), I'm supposing that you're finding all of this speculation over him potentially moving for money fascinating too, given that he's on a fairly eye-watering amount here at Quins already.

If he has 2 years left on his contract, then Saints (if it is they) would need to buy out that part of the contract, which is a very unusual occurrence in Rugby circles still. As things stand, he knows he's first choice with us, is 1st/2nd pick for England, and is possibly in the frame for inclusion in the next Lions tour too.
Any move now would shake all of these factors up. He may not be guaranteed to start at a new club. He would have to remain in England to ensure he remains qualified for International duty and hence Lions duty, and can other clubs really offer him a vastly improved salary within the cap (I believe he couldn't qualify as a Marquee Player under the rules)?

You can't be a marquee player if you move from one club to another. If a club has to buy out someone's contract, then that comes out of their salary cap. So buying Sinckler right now would cost them the price of three major players. I can't see that happening.

Yes, I was going to say (thank you stoquin) he has a very tight relationship with Adam Jones. Another reason he's unlikely to move on.

Yeah, the more I think about this, the more it feels like a non-story. The only thing worrying me is arniepie saying there might be something in it.

Well also, as we know with Gustard (don't....), a club approaching someone is not the same as them wanting to leave.

With all these reasons for him not to be going, I'd say he's half way out the door already.

I don’t think Kyle will be going anywhere at the moment as Quins turned down saints offer to buy out the remainder of the 18 months he has left on his current contract

Phew!

(And I hope that it was Saints' speculation, not Sinck's suggestion that started it all off... i.e. I hope he wants to stay too)

So if Saints wanted him then presumably they'd have had to pay 18 months of his current contract, which I believe counts towards the cap, plus you'd imagine a substantial wage increase (unless Sinck is unhappy and wants to go even if it means a pay cut, wehich seems unlikely), all counting towards the salary cap as he can't be a marquee player. Given that I imagine he's on a pretty huge amount as it is, they move would surely have represented a huge chunk of their salary cap
