Nothing needs "fixing". Season hasn't started. Post your doom and gloom after 1st September!

Who said that?

How did that get past the word police?

It was originally designed as a forum platform for birdwatchers.

Apparently hooker is now OK. I've pointed out the mammary issue to the powers that be. (Who seem much more responsive than on the sportnetwork board.)

Is it a bad word?

Apparently we have a very US centric profanity checker. So yes, we were having problems using hooker, which in a rugby site is a bit of a problem.

hmm  no idea the strength of teams involved , but see Treviso ran Warriors close and then beat Tigers ... was hoping to celebrate in Venice with a bottle of Amarone ...might have a rethink !

Have been a fan of Monty Ioane for a few years, last season he did Treviso wonders so if he’s playing we will need to be sharp! Should make a great game

Wasps' loss to Connacht was similar in terms of points difference to ours to Glasgow.

We have the worst “Points against” in the table which is a real issue I hope we fix this season.

Thought it might be worth revisiting this thread following the opening game of the season. In particular:

1) My comments (echoing concerns voiced by others) that there was something deeply rotten within the culture of the club. There seemed to be an apathy, lack of responsibility, over-familiarity and tolerance of mediocrity.

2) Having read so many tip Quins for relegation this year, including credible rugby people, in recent weeks.

What a difference a game makes. After a somewhat ropey pre-season, I can only imagine what a weight that result and performance must have taken off everyone at the club’s shoulders. Much of the talk pre season seemed to focus on an increased urgency, desire, and discipline and the training footage shared by the club was positive in that regard. It was brilliant for all for everything to come together so well on the opening day. They grew in the game and responded so well to going behind.

What a day. Massive congrats to Paul Gustard and the players.

Having started the thread exactly because of that “something rotten” feeling - yesterday was a joy. Team playing for each other and fighting hard.

Now we now from interviews they’ve really started from scratch - ripped stuff off walls, thrashed everything out...

Seems to have worked - big test will come if they lose a couple on the bounce - but if we play like Sat that may not happen for a while.

So happy.

So many positives from Saturday and it’s a good first step. Just need to see continual improvement, think we’ll face some tougher opposition along the way for a start.

Was good to see the positivity and confidence grow.

I was concerned with the reaction from the players to the knock on, that was reminiscent of last season, we reacted a second slow and they raced in a try from 60m.

I also felt they looked a little nervy, as sale kept getting back in the game In the first half.

The game does not change my opinion, the league is still going to be a tough one, Bristol are competitive, and we know there is not a lot to split most of the other teams.
Form and injuries will count

Let’s see how we go against an ill disciplined Saints who will be smarting from their opening day fixture.

They looked pretty physical and robust so a different prospect under the Friday night lights.

Great start though wasn’t it,

I reckon we’ll have few steps forwards and a few steps back to deal with....

I wasn't at the game - but watched a recording of it last night.  I already new the result though.
One area that I wasn't impressed with was the number of penalties that we gave away around the 50 minute mark.  We probably gave away 5 in fairly quick succession.
On a different day with a different ref, we could easily have received a yellow card.  Especially as we had also given away a few penalties during the 1st half while in the danger zone.
The only positive from this is that we gave away no more penalties after receiving a warning.

It was a choice between giving away pens or giving away tries. The team had a cynical edge. We killed the play when needed and then - as soon as we cleared our lines, we scored for a sucker punch. It was a real momentum shifter.

yes - we could have had a yellow on another day, but I think the team did just enough to vary offences and stop when the ref have a "final warning".
