In my car crying, hope you’re happy

So, "well deserved" or "not in the spirit of rugby"?

If she’s easily offended and triggered by things journalism isn’t for her. Obviously there are some idiots out there who can say terrible things which are bordering on criminal offences, but in the whole of you are on social media you have to take the rough with the smooth.

The BBC presenter posted a harrowing message

 :D Harrowing!

She really is a big jessie. Not to mention a tedious interviewer.

The abuse is unacceptable.

Putting players on the spot in the hope of drama is not clever, but is a symptom of the business not the individual.

Asking Alan Wyn Jones his thoughts on the Wales knock on immediately after the game in the hope of drama is just silly.

The abuse is unacceptable. However, asking the same question over and over is not, in my eyes, fearless journalism. It's just trying to generate headlines for tomorrow. As a professional, SM would know that coaches and players get jumped on from a great height if they dare criticise a referee. So she already knew she was trying to inveigle OF into saying something he shouldn't, presumably relying on the fact he was knackered, upset and feeling he hadn't been treated fairly she was hoping for some sort of outburst. Good for OF that he remembered his media training and just played it with a straight bat.

The interviewer is there as a representative of the rugby fans to get each captain's view as to how the game went. Obviously you only get a very limited time with each player, so why waste it on three questions where we learned absolutely nothing? I realised from Farrell's first answer that he was going to bat away every attempt to get him to criticise the referee - why did it take SM two more questions?

She's not a rugby specialist, is she? Just a generalist sports reporter (typical of the BBC nowadays)? If so, I don't think it's fair to expect any more from her. Clearly it was pretty poor journalism, but all that said, there is no excuse whatsoever for personal nastiness directed at her by online trolls. I'm very sad that it meant she left in tears because of that — it's totally unacceptable (same would be true if it was a male reporter who left in tears because he had received the same kind of comments).

She's been doing pitch side interviews at international rugby matches for years and is in my opinion has never added anything to the occasion. That doesn't mean she should suffer abuse however.

I thought the best thing Owen Farrell did yesterday was to retain his patience with her questioning and not to simply walk away.

I despise this trend of channeling metoo and claiming abuse. She wasn't abused, she was criticised for a horrific set of questions she knew full well couldn't be answered. She has done this for a decade, she is utterly toxic. You live by the sword etc.

Tweeting out her distress for the feminists and non-fans to ride to her rescue is just pathetic. She's got a reputation as a pitbull interviewer, anyone who believes she actually cried can buy this bridge.

Mate. If you don't think sonja m, who has been doing pitch side interviews for at least a decade, doesn't know full well the implications of players and coaches criticising refereeing decisions then you are crazy.

I can't fly twitter. Can anyone find the post that accuses her of being toxic?

Whether she is good or not at pitchside interviews does not come into this.  Online or any abuse is totally unacceptable.  There are no mitigating circumstances to say otherwise.  If you keep up with these abnoxious trends you would be aware that they are usually aimed at women or people of colour.

Surely the appropriate response would be the BBC Complaints department, not going directly to her on social media?

I've watched all the interviews and I don't actually see what was so awful about her questioning. The story of the game was the refereeing and England's discipline, she asked questions about the refereeing and England's discipline.

We need a list of the rules of what can be said to men, women and people who aren't white. They would be different rules I expect. I don't know if using the words 'toxic' and 'disgraceful' to describe her interviews would be against the rules but I would hope not.
