Stan South sent to Coventry
« on: Tuesday 23-Apr-2019, 10:36* »
HARLEQUINS FORWARD STAN SOUTH WILL LEAVE THE CLUB AT THE END OF THE SEASON TO JOIN GREENE KING IPA CHAMPIONSHIP SIDE COVENTRY.

The second row joined Harlequins at the beginning of the 2014/15 season from Whitgift School, making his debut later that season against Gloucester Rugby and has since gone on to make 27 First Team appearances.

South represented England at U18 and U20 level and last season was nominated for the Anglo-Welsh Cup Breakthrough Player of the Year Award.

Harlequins Head of Rugby Paul Gustard said: “We want to thank Stan for everything he has given to the Club and wish him well for the next stage of his career.”

hmmm, so horwill, merrick, south and assume glynn leaving, with only 3 coming in?

Good luck to him anyway. He never really seemed to challenge for regular starts so probably a good move for him

Sad to see him leave the club, I thought he had a bright future.

3 Locks seem very lightweight for next season, I wonder Twomey is coming back after his run out for the A-team the other day.

I hope it means we can go after RG Snyman (He has his first run out of Super Rugby recently for the Blue Bulls and looked world-beating) or one of Kopu brothers from Saracens.

Maybe there was something in what Fissler said about Snyman possibly signing on from the 2020-21 season onwards after all...

Also, we have more than 3 locks for next season:

Lewies, Symons, Young, Freeman, Lamb

So that's 5. Are there any likely to be graduating from the academy? Tizard?

I still hope you're right about Snyman of course, but doubt it tbh...

I don't see South as a loss really - I doubt he'd have been picked ahead of any of the 5 listed above. Good luck to him at Cov. I lived there for a year when I was at uni. Let's just say I feel no need to return to those particular hunting grounds.

I may be in the minority, but I hope Glynn doesn't leave. He's been a really good squad player for us, the type that we need.

I've thought Glynn has really matured into a very good, dependable squad player. I'll be sorry to see him go if he leaves.

I've changed my mind on Glynn. Didn't think he was good enough. I still don't think he should be a regular starter but I'd be really happy to see him stay as a squad player. Unless Gussy has plans to bring more quality in at lock of course...

However, Glynn is widely rumoured to be off and we haven't seen anything from the club to suggest otherwise, so I suspect Freeman is seen as a like-for-like replacement for him in the "dependable squad player" role.
