It does seem strange timing if it is now. End of the season I could see. Smith and Lang are both young still, Cat has played all of about 15 minutes in a season and a bit, who knows if he'll come back the player he was before a horrible injury. Strange, but entirely possible. Good luck to him, I think he will improve with regular game time, he always seemed to have all the right skills, just never quite made it with Quins.

And it's official.

Good luck to the lad. I can only assume that this means The Cat is close to returning to play...

I don't understand the timing. Does Gustard not want/like Swiel?

FLY-HALF SAYS HE LEAVES WITH SOME SPECIAL MEMORIES AFTER FOUR YEARS AT THE CLUB.

Harlequins confirmed today (1st October) that Tim Swiel has signed for Newcastle Falcons.

The Fly-half, who initially joined the Club in October 2014, made 48 appearances for Harlequins and was a popular figure at The Stoop.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here at Harlequins with a great bunch of lads,” said Swiel. “I will take some very special memories with me, particularly from playing in Big Game, against Leinster in the Heineken Cup and very special victories over Saracens and Bath at The Stoop.

“The Club is very ambitious and I hope it gets where it wants to be. It has been a great part of my rugby journey and now I am excited and looking forward to the next part of it at Newcastle.”

Harlequins’ Head of Rugby Paul Gustard said: “Tim is a talented and popular player who has contributed to some fine Harlequins memories over the past four years. He has a tremendous opportunity to further his career at Newcastle and we did not want to stand in his way.

“I know I speak on behalf of the team when I say we are going to miss him as a human being first and foremost but on behalf of all at Harlequins I wish him the very best for his future at Newcastle.”

Swiel could very soon be lining up against Harlequins when Newcastle visit The Stoop twice in early November for Premiership and Premiership Cup fixtures. Swiel added: “It would be strange to come back and play against these guys, many of whom I consider friends for life – but I definitely look forward to being to able to play at The Stoop again.”

Maybe part of the attraction to Gustard is that it frees up salary cap space to strengthen elsewhere.

I'm hoping it means they were keeping him until sure the walking wounded were getting better and going to play a part. So now if that's true we can afford to let him go.

Timing seems odd, and is 3 fly halves enough even if the Cat is fit, as you're always just one injury away from a problem. We're fielding a guest player in the A league as it is. Chisholm played well when he came on at 10 a few weeks ago, but would you really want him covering 10 in the Premiership? Do we have a 10 in the academy?

Anyway, good luck to Tim. Always seemed like a good bloke and always thought he weas a decent player. Thought he'd do well for us, but playing being Nev and then injuries have hampered his chances
