HARLEQUINS’ SIDE TO FACE ASM CLERMONT AUVERGNE
Friday, 17th January 2020 @ 12:00

THE HARLEQUINS SIDE TO TAKE ON ASM CLERMONT AUVERGNE AT THE STOOP ON SATURDAY 18 JANUARY (KICK OFF 15:15) HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED.

Harlequins’ final match of the 2019/20 Heineken Champions Cup campaign will see centre Tom Penny make his debut for the Club, with Academy hooker Sam Riley in line for his first appearance, off the bench.

James Chisholm leads the side which also includes Alex Dombrandt and Will Collier who recently extended their contracts with the Club.

Head of Rugby at Harlequins, Paul Gustard said: “We wanted to make sure that we have a big, physical team to counter the threats of Clermont. We know they have a very strong set-piece, they have the highest ball-winning lineout in the French Top 14 and we need to cut off their water and lights.

“Obviously we were disappointed with our results in the competition this season; Clermont ran away with it against us, as they have done with a few teams this year. We want to continue building on the momentum gained by beating Bath last Friday and we want to sign off this year’s competition – a competition we fought really hard to enter – with a performance that we can be proud of.

“We have 27 or 28 fit players to choose from that are eligible in this competition and it’s important that they give us some momentum to carry into our match against Saracens next week with a strong performance.”

Lasike injured too.

If I were a centre or a hooker that Quins were looking at for cover, I'd refuse, the positions seem to be cursed!

Strictly speaking we should get murdered with that side we're putting out but as long as they fight for everything and cut out the stupidity I'll be happy.

I’m slightly terrified about what could happen this weekend, to call it a complete mismatch would be an understatement....

Good luck to our team. They have nothing to lose, so just go out, enjoy the occasion, and come out of the other side as better players. I think we'll surprise people, although the lineups look pretty daunting. Still, we've had harder games.

Five injured hookers, and five injured centres - most of them long term. Considering that, it's a pretty good side. Good to see Marcus back on the bench.

I don't suppose Tim Molenaar is around? He's the most durable centre we've had in recent years....

Interesting that Marchant *isn't* on the injured list any more - but presumably there's no way to bring him back from the antipodes.

I would still take a guess that if this were a league game, a few of the injured would be available.  Robshaw is apparently due back next week.  I expect Ellia also.

When the injuries were published last week, Symons and Lewies were included, In the midweek update, they were not, now they are back.  I suspect they are being rested/have a little niggle.

Nah - we can win this - if Clermont play blindfolded..

I suppose our team is largely as expected. A chance for a few boys to get an 80 minutes under their belt and test themselves against the best. I am a bit surprised that Lamb is in ahead of Kunatani and Chisholm ahead of Goneva, but there we go. It will be nice to be back at the Stoop tomorrow!

Speaking of which, I wonder what will happen next weekend if Sarries do get relegated? Will they be obliged to complete their fixtures? Or will Newcastle, Cornish Pirates or Ealing turn up as our opposition instead?!

I would expect Sarries to have to fulfill their fistures as they can have impact on the the rest of the Prem.  If they finish the season in say 6th, thats fine, but they still go down. Basically the league carries on but who ever comes bottom, Sarries go down

I'd say that would definitely have an effect on the rest of the Premiership!

If they don't actually turn up, we might win...
