Over the last few years he has had lots of shots - that he has serious speed is not in question - just his defence - Cadan M has shown him up defensively and Ibitoye offensively, ahtough he too, enjoys his moments of defensive laxative...

There could be many reasons why he hasn't featured. Some on here were quick to claim Visser was finished at Quins, until it became known he'd had surgery. Some claimed Sailli (and also Horwill) wouldn't play for Quins again. All proven wrong.

I like Walker as a player, and I agree he hasn't shone this season; he hasn't had much opportunity though. How much of that is down to be way down the pecking order, and how much is due to injury or other reasons, we don't know. To say Gabs has shown him up is a bit wide of the mark; Gabs is quick and strong, Walker is quicker. His defence isn't always great, but I'd say it's better than Gab's. However, Walker is pure pace, and I think that type of player always suits hard, dry ground. It may fall into place for him, if he gets further opportunities in the next month or so. Let's not forget that he was strongly linked with a mid-season move but supposedly turned it down.

Having said that, if he does go then I'd be disappointed.

Hmmm now I'm concerned about the win.

No Symons, Care and Gabs is a problem.

Our other 9s are bobbins.

Also - how rubbish is Walker that even now he can't get a look in?

Not surprised Gabs or Care are not in the squad after last weekend.

I thought the suggestion was at the Quinssa evening where Gustard spoke that he wasn't impressed with some players' attitudes which is why you don't see them getting a chance. Walker presumably wrong.

I wasn't at the evening though, so might have heard wrong, and obviously there's no way of knowing if he's one of them, but it seems pretty likely. Shame, as I like him as a player, but I've heard from various sources that his attitude isn't great. All hearsay of course. Never met him so can't comment

Am probably being VERY negative but I see a few holes here compared to the team of last week. I know Gussy likes to show a bit of rotation and I don't know if there's a bit of "Its Bristol so lets give some others a run" sort of mentality. But looking at tomorrows fixtures and the momentum we currently have in 3rd Id be more inclined to pick the strongest side we can for the forseeable future and rotate purely on injuries (if this is the case already then my apologies).
My worry is that Bristol see some of these changes and come even more up for it than they already were.

There is no suggestion of resting players. By the sounds of it, all of the changes are enforced.

Crumpton - banned
Care - injured
Gabs - injured
Symons - sick

Yes probably didnt make my point too clear...... Friday pub lunch lol......... I think its probably more down to opinion of who the replacements should be, and the ones I would pick arent the ones on the lineup. But lets be honest, thats why I work where I do and thats why Gussy is in "the seat" :D

Quinky - there's not much in it, but I think "Gabs" offers more penetration - he's bigger and bulkier - perhaps not quite as lightening quick as Walker. Defensively they are in the same boat.

I think that PG likes chunkier players that take and give a hit. He does need to work on "Gabs" to make his hits. He tends to dither when defending space and doesn't know how to deal with the offload and who (and how) to commit to. I've seen him make good tackles when there's no choice - and miss some.

Another different, but related aspect - some have said we hide Marcus S to protect him: he has made some very good tackles against some mounters, not always, but enough to make me think he may need less protection as time goes on.

Agree with the above. Wuss were targeting Smith through the middle, especially with their huge number 5. Smith slowed him down or stopped him every time. I do rate Lang but am always more excited by seeing Smith's name at Fly Half.

Fair comments Bolly. I think Walker's defence has improved a lot and still see it as better than Gabs. For me Walker is currently the better all-round player who would beat Gabs for pace; on the other hand, Walker has stagnated somewhat in terms of progress and it seems his only weapon is pace. Gabs still has a lot more time to develop.

I still hark back to the comments by Ollie Smith that Walker's best position is fullback. A bit more open field play would definitely suit him.

With the greatest respect to Gabs I don't think losing him for this game is a big deal at all, and I'd say that about most wingers. Care is the biggest loss by far as Smith will have to direct the game all on his lonesome.

Well I’m not surprised they’re injured after watching them get injured - but not sure I could have predicted they were serious enough not to play tomrrorow. So good job!

Visser wasn’t playing was he was fit as well as when injured. Can’t see how he’s needed now. JK had issues with him as well. Not sure anything has been proved anywhere here.

Saili had one of the longest concussion-based absences we’ve ever seen and Horwill has played about two matches in six months with a serious injury at the age of 33. So yes I was among those doubting they’d come back - so yeah we were “proved wrong” but it’s not like I’d predicted Marcus Smith would change gender, we’d speculated entirely within the realms of possibility that bad injuries had gone on far longer than looked hopeful....or indeed that we were hoping we were right. So not quite sure of the point you’re making on that one.

We do know Walker isn’t down the list because of injury because he’s not listed as “not considered”. Nor was Visser before his operation, he just wasn’t being picked. And they both played for the a league.

I can’t see any way in which Gabs isn’t a much better player than Walker - other than his defence is currently erratic at best.

Outside of who is good or not, i would argue that Walker has been left in the wilderness over the potential of youth - they are possibly cheaper and likely to look elsewhere if not played/offered contracts.... Walker has been given many a chance over quite long time (6+ years at the club).

Symons is far bigger loss than Gabs as he has been great for us and gives good alternative to Horwill in line out
