Harlequins announce squad to play Worcester Warriors

Cadan Murley will make his Premiership debut for Harlequins when they play Worcester Warriors in the Gallagher Premiership at Sixways on Friday evening (kick-off: 19:45).
Academy-product Murley, who has impressed on the right wing in the Premiership Rugby Cup this season, is the only change in the back line from the team that beat Newcastle Falcons last week.

There are two changes in the forwards with Joe Marler and Max Crumpton returning to the front row, having come on as Game Changers against Falcons. Alex Dombrandt, who scored his third try of the season last week, starts again in the back row while number 8 James Chisholm leads the side although James Horwill, the Club’s co-captain, returns from injury and is named among the Game Changers.

Harlequins Head of Rugby Paul Gustard said: “We thoroughly deserved our win against Newcastle Falcons in the Gallagher Premiership last week and now we look forward to building on that performance.

“Our defence was excellent last week as it has been all season and from an attacking point of view we created a lot of opportunities but failed to recognise the space, and some execution around the breakdown limited our ability to build on momentum and develop a larger lead.

“Our league position is a fair reflection of the season so far and is reward for the bonus points we have picked up due to our tenacity and togetherness. We want to continue to develop and grow as a team and put together our best 80 minutes on Friday night.

“Cadan Murley has earned his place in our starting XV with an excellent attitude in training all season and a couple of impactful performances in the Premiership Rugby Cup. He is very coachable and diligent with his personal development and is duly rewarded.

“We know that Worcester are a well-coached and very capable side with multiple threats and all of the squad are looking forward to the challenge ahead.”

I really like the look of this team. There is quality and togetherness throughout. I don't consider us to have too many troublesome egos (we have nice egos!) but this group look really in it for each other, not for themselves. Well done Gussie, the change in focus and culture seems to be shaping up well.

The other day I said we would win it by 7. I now think we will win it by 8!

Murley's a bit of a shock. Morris, Ibitoye, Alofa and Visser seemingly all injured, but what about Walker? He seems completely in the cold now.

Pretty decent side and a strong bench. High hopes.

New England cap Ted Hill will return to club action with Worcester Warriors in Friday’s Gallagher Premiership match against Harlequins at Sixways (kick-off 7.45pm).

Hill, 19, made his England debut as a 74th minute replacement in their win over Japan at Twickenham last Saturday.

He trained with England again on Monday and Tuesday ahead of this weekend’s match against Australia before being released back to Warriors.

Hill will make his second Premiership start against Harlequins in a re-jigged back row which sees Matt Cox, a replacement at Bath last week, start at number eight in place of GJ van Velze who has been ruled out by a shoulder joint injury. Centre Ryan Mills will captain Warriors in van Velze’s absence.

The third change to the side that played at Bath is in the second row where Pierce Phillips will partner Anton Bresler.

Warriors are again missing centre Ben Te’o, wing Josh Adams and hooker Joe Taufete’e who are on international duty with England, Wales and USA respectively.

Good team, winnable-but-not-easy match!
Liking the squad rotation and fighting for the shirt seems to be creating a much better attitude all round.
....but the wings seems to be the position where PG is most in disagreement with what he inherited from JK, with Visser/Walker frozen out and presumably looking for new jobs next year. You have to wonder if Yarde hadn't been booted out by JK what would the pecking order be now ???

Anyway, forwards look good esp. with Horwill back.....although interestingly all the 'we need a big ball carrier' (Luamanu, Lasike etc) chat from last year seems to have faded away recently despite Dombrandt/Clifford/JChisholm all being similar builds and play styles.

A 2nd away win would instantly put this season on a better footing than the last few!

Walker was appalling during his brief appearance this season. Murley meanwhile looked great and the boss was talking him up in the Q&A according to whoever posted about it.

Horwill presumably not starting since he hasn't played any actual rugby for so long.

Don't think Visser is injured, he's just not good enough - assume he'll be out the door this summer. Alofa has also barely had a look in so assume he's not in Gustard's thinking so again no sign he's injured.

 Walker didn't take his chance when started but Murley certainly did so good luck to him  , makes sense  to start players on form and full of confidence ( like Dombrandt)

I doubt Gussie would have put up with Yarde's behaviour so suspect the situation would be exactly the same or may even have happened sooner

I like this. "duly rewarded"... That sounds to me like a statement of intent aimed at the players. And one whose sentiment I agree with.

I agree, you have to earn the shirt, its not given and as such you should appreciate it and do everything you can to keep it.

What do we make of Care on the bench?  Gussie agrees with Eddie that he must try harder, or being given some recovery time, or just Mulchrone did enough to keep the jersey?
