SMITH, CHISHOLM, AND NORTHMORE RETURN TO STARTING XV FOR SALE TRIP

HARLEQUINS' COACHING TEAM HAVE MADE THREE CHANGES TO THE STARTING LINE-UP THIS WEEK AS THE CLUB TRAVEL TO SALE SHARKS
Promoted to the starting XV this week off the back of a blockbuster victory over playoff rivals Bristol Bears last weekend, Marcus Smith, James Chisholm and Luke Northmore are the sole changes to the starting line-up to travel to Manchester tomorrow evening.
With all three players earning their first starts of the season, Smith replaces injured Italy international Tommy Allan, while Chisholm and Northmore start in place of Tom Lawday and Louis Lynagh respectively, who are named amongst the Impact Players this week.
With Northmore partnering Springbok centre Andre Esterhuizen in the midfield, England man Joe Marchant is shifted to the right wing this week.
Previewing another round of Friday night lights for the Mighty Quins, Scrum Coach Adam Jones said: “It’s great to see Chis (James Chisholm) back fit and starting this week after a bit of an injury-hit start to his season. Marcus was obviously great off the bench last week and Lukey [Luke Northmore] is always a strong performer whenever he pulls on the jersey.
“We’ve probably started the week with a bit more bounce in our steps off the back of such a great occasion at The Stoop last week, but we turned the focus to Sale this weekend pretty quickly.
“Sale are a strong team and were obviously semi-finalists last year. They’re a big, heavy, aggressive forward pack with a good set-piece. They can play a bit of ball when they need to, too.
“It’s a tough place to go as a pack, but we know if we impose ourselves on them, we can challenge them with the way we play, the Harlequins Way.”

Why? The AJ Bell hasn’t been a happy hunting ground for us but have a solid, settled side and are in great form. The absence of MacGinty is a big boost for us I’d say. Sale are an entirely different team with him pulling the strings.

Class looking team from QUINS. I like the Northmore and Esterhuizen combination in midfield. It will be very interesting to see how they go up against Tuilagi and co.
With the form we have, the fact that they have an untested fly-half and the continuity of selection, I think that this could be a good away win for us.
Looking forward to this clash a lot! Bring on Friday. -

The absence of Byron is huge for them. He is such a good player and none of the replacements are anywhere near as good.
I'd say we're in with a chance.
If he was playing I think we'd be looking at a LBP (or 2). -

Bit tough for Lynagh to get benched after scoring two tries last week! Maybe something to do with balance as I see we have no fly half replacement on the bench. Guess Green would move there if needed with Lynagh at full back. Hope Allan recovers soon.
Still concerned about the injury list. We are a couple of knocks or call ups away from relying on the academy at 1 and 2.

Good team. Very pleased to see Northmore and Chisholm getting starts.
I know we're in a great run of form, but we always struggle at Sale on a Friday night. This will be a real test of our current style and form. Bristol's style suits us really well and it's so open. Exeter's less so admittedly.
Sale are in many ways the complete opposite to us, so we'll see how it goes. Have to do the hard stuff first before we can do the nice looking stuff. But I back our pack and ball carriers to do the necessary. It's not like we're all style with no substance. Our pack is a match for anyone's at the moment -

Our first XV is outstanding and our wider squad has really improved in terms of quality and depth.
Lynagh is possibly being rotated out of the first XV this week and we may see this happen to some of the others over the next few weeks. David and Jones need to be integrated into the starting line up and this is more successful if it happens as one change at a time in amongst the usual line up, rather than wholesale changes (as will happen for the Prem Cup).
Luke Northmore is such a tremendous player, he deserves to start. It is a shame that someone has to miss out!!! -

Completely agree. It is sometimes a footnote in media reports that our pack is so important and impressive! I feel confident to say we have the best scrum in the league and (last season) our lineout was pretty much always reliable. It was the basis for our impressive run last season as it gave so much space, time and good quality ball for the backs to work with.
Our scrum remains excellent in spite of the absence of Wilco and Steph. Kerrod has been a reliable back up and Dino has really stepped up! The lineout is working well but perhaps needs a bit of attention to get it back up to near perfection.
We have what it takes to go toe to toe with Sale away. The home game against them last season was instructive in terms of how we were able to absorb their pressure and hit them on the break.

True, but having nothing but academy at 1 and 2 both starting and on the bench would be a challenge. I think it takes a bit longer to develop on the front row compared to further back. -
