The Ricoh experience
« on: Sunday 19-May-2019, 20:21* »
The Ricoh has a lot going for it, with theCasino, and plenty of food and drinks outlets
But yesterday was the worst experience I’ve had at a Premiership ground this season with the home support
Booing every decision that went against them, but the whistling and shouting when ever we took a kick was just disrespectful

Not all the home supporters where doing the above but there where plenty booing etc
We sat in block 16 and a lot of the supporters there where fine but a good few obviously don’t know about “ Respect the kicker” that’s for sure

Did anyone else think the same or was it just in our corner of the ground ?

Chatted throughout the match with a Wasps supporter and he took a keen interest in a number of our players and applauded good performance from both teams, mind you he was a traveller from High Wycombe so obviously one of the old school. As you say there was a lot of booing from various parts of the stadium but generally not from around where I was sat in Block 23.

We have people booing at the stoop too, so can't be too holier than thou, but every time I've been to the Ricoh, 5 or 6 now, it's been like that. Really not a great match day experience

Not being “ Holier than thou” yes we have had boos, but every decision? And can only think once when the crowd hasn’t respected the kicker
I’ve been to the Ricoh 4 times and that’s the worst I’ve heard, not just there but at any ground this season
Also saw at lone person being escorted out by security

Can't comment on the Ricoh, never been, but can comment on the Stoop. I sit in the South stand, and have to encourage silence for kicking at every game. I feel, perhaps, that ship has sailed. Unfortunately.

I liked the ground and could cope with a few boos, but I wasn't happy to find that they had run out of Purity beer before half time...

I'm not a great fan of the Ricoh because it's a car park football ground. It's better than most of those types of ground though - especially the MadStad.

The booing is a bit much. There are boos at The Stoop but that's normally at a perceived harsh yellow card or similar rather than a penalty against us which is normally greeted with a groan. The quiet for kicks has all but disappeared as people tend to be nattering about their ski holidays or similar much of the time.

1st time Ive been to the Ricoh . 16,000 crowd apparently - but possibly the worst PA system Ive ever experienced . It could be just where we were sat but could barely understand a word that was said .

Seems to me it was an end of term party atmosphere in the crowd and probably many non regulars - there was a group of about 20 students a few rows in front of us who were only there for the beer , and not too bothered about what was happening on the pitch , just up and down for beer all game  (  but we  suffer from that at The Stoop as well don't we) ,  maybe why there was more booing than usual ?

There were also Quins fans whistling Sopoaga when he took an age over a kick , so not all one sided .

Just to clarify, I wasn't accusing you of being holier than thou, just saying in general.

The kicker isn't always respected at the Stoop, but that's because of the general hum of conversation, not people deliberately trying to put him off.
There are occasions the boos carry on to the kick because of what's perceived as a wrong decision by the ref, but they are limited to less than once per game I'd have said.
The booing came across quite clearly on the TV and I was wondering if there was something I missed that started it.

I love that excuse. Always reminds me of Spinal Tap. :)

They were still booing him when we came on stage.

The people who shush are as bad as the people who boo in my book.

I was lucky to be in a hospitality box, so it wasn't too bad! Facilities seem good, and the ground isn't too "football". Parking was good too, and it didn't take an age to get out as it does at the Stoop...
