The ruck podcast this week
« on: Wednesday 08-Jan-2020, 10:49* »
Mark Evans joins LOl, Owen Slot well worth a listen. You can access via iTunes and I don’t think you need a Times subscription. I did not know Mark was living in Perth (OZ) CEO of Global Rapid Rugby funded by Andrew Forest. Creating international league and looking to include Japan and Pacific Islands team.

Also includes whole lot about Sarries and he believes only 4 teams are safe from relegation this year. Lol says you could see from Quins body language in warm up at Sale that they want up for that match on Friday.

It is an excellent episode this week. Evans makes some good points - that are not new but good to hear. For example there was no way Saracens could have that many internationals and be under the cap. We all know that - unless they just like playing for Saracens. Lawrence D makes the point, again, that Daley left Wasps for the Wray money.
Evans should be involved in English rugby at a senior level. He sounds as if he would make real change for the good.

Well he knows about balancing the books; that's how we got relegated. :)

Well now I've listened to it, I'd urge everybody to make the time to do the same.
Lots of good stuff on what we do regarding the future, salary caps, how rugby needs to grow up.
Hadn't realised Mark Evans is running the Perth attempt to get rugby up and running all over South East Asia - good luck to him with that. A project large enough to tax even his rugby brain!

Yup.

He explains exactly why the salary cap is needed but also how to enforce it and all the other things needed to make the league viable.

He basically calls PRL a bunch of amateurs and hopes CVC will get them to sort themselves out.

This is great.

Side note, Owen Slot doesn't appear to have any real understanding of what the situation is and has little of interest to add beyond rubbish "bants".

go back a few episodes and Jones says Saracens have done nothing wrong, Saracens players play for Saracens because they want to and are paid less than at other clubs. I wonder what he will say next time he is on the podcast now the interim CEO has finally admitted Saracens are miles over the cap.

Jones will never admit his own failures, that's not what terrible trolls do. Enjoyed Dallaglio's little jab at Jones not being on the podcast though.

It was an interesting listen. Evs really would be useful back here to sort out the nonsense on behalf of CVC and PRL. Reading between the lines, he still seems to think that British and Irish rugby is going to change a lot, especially with the CVC money. I wonder if it's the British and Irish or European League he used to think was inevitable.
