Think Jones may have lost the plot.....

A Centre playing on the wing, No proper no 8, and a 15 who couldn't catch a cold in the North pole!

Jonathan Joseph starts on the wing on his 50th cap as head coach Eddie Jones shuffles England's backline for the Six Nations match with Ireland on Sunday.

Elliot Daly moves to full-back for the Twickenham game with George Furbank, who began the first two games, injured.

Centre Manu Tuilagi is back after recovering from a groin niggle.

Prop Joe Marler replaces the unavailable Mako Vunipola, with Ben Youngs returning at scrum-half and Courtney Lawes starting on the flank.

England team to face Ireland
England: Daly; May, Tuilagi, Farrell (capt), Joseph; Ford, Youngs; Marler, George, Sinckler, Itoje, Kruis, Lawes, Underhill, Curry.

Replacements: Cowan-Dickie, Genge, Stuart, Launchbury, Ewels, Earl, Heinz, Slade.

Bizarre stuff. Joseph's a very capable player but not really a winger and I really don't like Lawes at 6.

Well, we are short of decent wingers and back row players so makes sense. Oh wait

Eddie Jones is an idiot and literally makes no sense. If Ireland win I hope they actually stuff us to highlight his shortcomings if it means we actually get a head coach in who is a bit old fashioned, as in playing the best players in their best positions.

What next? Johnny May gets injured and is replaced by Cowan Dickie?

Wouldn't say he's an idiot. Won 2 6 nations including an 18 game unbeaten run and got us to a World Cup final thumping Aus and NZ on the way.

Wish he would stop with the bizarre selections though. It's almost as if he's doing some stuff just for the hell of it.

Joseph - not a centre
Daly - not an international full back
Lawes - not a 6

uh?!?!? what is next? Marler on the wing?

I do not understand this fixation with Lawes at 6. Against Scotland we were much better having a relatively balanced back row (though I would prefer Dombrandt at 8 and Curry at 6). Also If we are having a 6:2 bench, why would you have 5 locks?

Farrell not an international 10, 12 or captain

This imbalance in the team will have an effect, so it is fairly idiotic. The selections he's made you would akin to some mid-game injury crisis off the bench to balance things, not days In advance of an important test.

Simmonds was apparently too light to be an 8, yet hes picked Curry who weighs less. Curry wasn't bad against Scotland, but I fear CJ Stander is going to really exploit Curry on Sunday.

The JJ selection I cannot work out at all considering the other options in the squad, and Lawes is not a 6.

I fear a high penalty count for Sunday and with so many out of position players in key areas across the field I imagine their inexperience will be exploited. I'd love to be wrong and sit here Sunday evening on the back of a resounding win, but realistically I'll be surprised if I am

I don't think this selection makes sense either, at all and is the closest I'd say to being idiotic. But I don't think he's an idiot, just stubborn and contrary. I'd agree with your view of a mid game injury crisis - it's almost as if he wants to test that from the off. It's said England are slow to adapt (probably true) but they'll have to adapt from the off here.

I'm not sure what point he's trying to prove with the 8s or what he hopes to get out of it. Joseph I worry less about, though I'd rather have one of the actual wingers playing there of course. The Lawes selection is just annoying. He's been hugely ineffective every time he's played there and wastes the place of someone who'd be better in the job. I do hope there's some grand plan but I'm really not sure. I appreciate there needs to be some changes post World Cup and some movements of players but I don't really see this as solving any of the most obvious ones.

I think he's just trying some very random experiments post World Cup, in the hope that something works out. Maybe there's an influence on what he sees in training. I can see some rationale in playing Lawes on the flank. Joseph on the wing sounds odd, but it may turn out to be a good move.

The biggest shock is the continuing non-selection of Dombrandt.

Bizzare selections? Eddie is either a genius or the polar opposite depending if it comes off or not. Apparently the last time JJ started a match on the wing was 2013 when he was still playing for Not Not's!!
The Bench is a mess too.
I do wonder....

I think we can expect the Irish to kick a lot of high balls to Daly and Joseph. :(
