The try should have stood as Earle would not have saved it with or without the blocking - Brew should have been yellow carded for foul play

The ref was inconsistent and there were a number of laws around the ruck that he applied, then ignored, then applied...
He pinged us for a not straight line out and when in a perfect position to see Bath throw something even more crooked, he just ignored it. So no, I wasn't impressed.

As for the booing, at least it woke the stadium up. It should never have come to that because the rest of the stadium could clearly see something that the referee and two assistant refs could not. Now we come to the meat of it. Carley caved in to the crowd! He should never have done that. If he believed that it was a try he should have given it, end of. As it was he let himself be persuaded by the crowd that there was something to look at, and he looked at it. Fortunately there was something to see, but what is he going to do next time he's in front of the shed at Gloucester? A ref should not let the crowd influence his decisions - that way lies madness!

I must say, in all the years I've been supporting Harlequins, I've never heard a storm of boos and catcalls like that. You have to get it pretty spectacularly wrong to get Harlequins fans to make that sort of noise. It's usually just the quiet murmur of conversations going on during the kicks!

It was the incident that woke up a pretty depressed and unhappy bunch of supporters and turned them into a bunch of supporters who really rocked the stadium in the final few minutes. So I can't really decry people (like me) doing it. Rugby has moved on from the amateur days when losing a game of rugby due to a poor ref had little impact in the overall scheme of things. Today it's a business, and people's careers hang on whether the team wins or loses - look at John Kingston, look at Leicester. If that try had been awarded we could easily have not scored any more and we certainly wouldn't have got the LBP. Come the end of the season, those 2 points could be what keeps us up, what gets us into Europe or what gets us into the play offs.

Can’t stand this high and mighty bullshit.  I am south stand ST holder and a rugby man through and through if you just want to nod and clap go watch cricket.  I’ve seen us go down ii’ve seen us lift trophies in fact I’ve been watching some 30 years rugb is becoming more than a turn up and watch its inclusive the fans and players as one.

Don’t like it move on.

I’ll be there for next home game hope you are too and maybe you can look down you nose at me if you’re tall enough.

Can't agree. Foul play is foul play whatever the likely outcome of it not happening. Suppose instead of blocking him he'd tripped him? Suppose he'd punched him?

It's like someone committing a foul in the ruck when the ball's coming back your side anyway. Is the ref supposed to say "well you were going to win it anyway, so the foul had no affect on the outcome, so I'm letting you off"?

Actually I think Rose (TMO) told him to look at it. But only after we all kicked off. It was a blatant and definitely illegal line. To run in that jinking style, whilst checking over the shoulder just to check you're getting in the way, is just plain cheating. Try doesn't stand, because the cheating influenced our player even having a chance of getting there. Should have been a yellow too IMHO.

For those wondering if Brew had run a consistent and straight line then he would have been fine.like the other week, as annoying as it was, standing your line is legit even if it blocks a chase.
What Brew did was change his line four times to directly interfere with the chaser’s runline, that is what was an illegal play.
As far as letting the try stand, the original offence began somewhere in the tens (although I thought ref’s Mark was too short personally) so the try could not stand.

West stand - we booed as loud as possible.

Bath player cheated - against the spirit (such bull poop nonsense anyway, get over it) and laws of rugby.

Cheat - get called out - get caught.

I booed, and I'll boo every week until the referees in this league improve. How you can call that support running is beyond me.

The referee had little to do with it, he was happy to ignore the noise until the TMO intervened.

Law states it was a penalty and try was correct not to be awarded

Only time all afternoon there seemed to be any real passion from the crowd and it built from that point
Sitting in Library I was also bloody annoyed by it as it looked as though it wasn’t even going to be looked at
Cheered when it was and it was disallowed
Hated the chant for OFF OFF OFF

And as for the comment about Cookie not being a real Quins fan, well he is

Agree re the off, off call. That was stupid. I agree with every comment above re the Stoop getting very annoyed. The stoop does need to get louder.

From the original posters post. Cookie. Are you really a rugby bloke/bird or did you start that for a wind up to get a reaction?  We were in the South and it was real fans like us that got the TMO review. What did you do? Nothing except deplore the football behaviour. Thank god for real Quins fans in the south.

Cookie is very much a 'real' Quins fan and has been for some years. I may disagree with his point of view on the Brew foul but no, he is very much a 'real' fan. Oh and btw, in case you question my credentials, I will say to the old timers, how is TMJ?

Sorry cookie,I disagree. And yes,I sit in the South stand, and I booed.

The referees geta huge amount of respect from me and all who sit near me for doing a difficult job. But that call, or lack of, was bafflingly poor, and deserved the derision it received.
