Hi all.

Planning to send an email to the club but just wanted to see if anyone had written in about this before and been given a reason it can't be done, so as not to completely waste my time...

The food area in the south west corner of the ground has some benches - could do with more, but then again I guess you'd never be able to provide enough. However, when it's absolutely tipping it down, it's not a fun place to be and definitely not a fun place to eat.

Has anyone ever asked why this area can't be covered by a large marquee or something, particularly in the winter months? It feels unlikely to me that this hasn't been raised before, hence my assumption that planning regulations or H&S mean it's not possible...

If it is possible, it would make a big difference to a lot of fans, but particularly wheelchair users like myself - when I get stuck in the rain, my seated position makes my lap a perfect raincatcher. I'm sure the same goes for anyone in a wheelchair, young kids in buggies, less mobile folk. Would just be nice to have some shelter right nearby to the food trucks, rather than having to trudge through the rain to the Kings Bar, by which point I'm soaked - as is my food.

Cheers!

Hi TBQ, I'm not aware of anyone raising this before, so go right ahead and let us know the result.

Are you one of the wheelchair users at the bottom of a stand? I can't imagine that is a lot of fun either on days like Saturday.

This is a good idea and what they have done at Franklins Gardens, so even in the rain they have bands on outside.

As Flapjack says, Franklin's Gardens is a good case study for this. It was nice to be able to sit down at a table and eat in the dry last Friday when it was tipping it down. A good atmosphere around their whole food area, also with the indoor family/games area, felt very inviting.

Great, I'm on it. Will let everyone know how I get on.

And yes, DOK, I sit at the front of the east stand, block AC. On rainy matchdays I put my legs in a black bin liner and have an oversized poncho (which covers most of my wheelchair too) that I wear during the game - 25 years of watching rugby means you come prepared - but it does restrict my use of my arms, so can't wear it when eating. Will email the club...

Hi TBQ, I fed this back quite heavily in my post-match survey.
There’s a lot that could be done with that corner. It’s a miserable place to be in the wet.

Thanks HFF. The more of us that say it, the more likely it is one of us will get through I guess. Call me cynical but I'm never expecting anyone to read those surveys, so I never do them - not just Quins ones, but anywhere that does them. I normally find emailing someone directly does more of a job. Just wondering what the best timing is what with the new CEO just getting his feet under the desk. You know how it is - all decision making on anything that costs money completely stalls as you transition from one top dog to another. When does he actually start?

There is talk of a big tent over the tarmac area to the north of the north stand.

Here is the planning application:

Thanks Nico. This makes me think planning is the reason they haven't covered the south west. That's the area most obviously in need of shelter. Having some cover behind the north is great - if you're behind the north. Seems more sensible to cover the area with more foot fall, but must not be possible.

I'll still email and see what they say...

Yeah, bit odd. North of the North has nobody in it whatsoever, a poor bar and a niche pricey pizza seller. The South is always packed and much larger. Also they should do something with the smoking sections. I know we are pariahs, but it just looks dreadful having everyone penned in like naughty children.

Where is this fabled smoking section - the only ones I am aware of are outside the gates, or is that what you mean?
