did DC get injured? if not I never understand in tight games why coaches insist on replacing key players at key times, seems to be a gamble that so often backfires.

Looking at both team sheets , I’m fairly encouraged by our selection
So wondered what everyone thinks the final score will be

I’m going out on a limb and going for a Quins win by 2 points

Close SiB, so close. Despite the sad end, that was a characterful performance in a hostile arena, with some of fussiest officiating of all time. Well played boys!

Yep I may well be mad

Oh, my comments lost. Anyway, was saying you were close SiB. Characterful performance in a hostile arena. Well played boys.

While we didn’t play much rugby I thought we managed the game (and terrible ref) pretty well. Their crowd was more quiet than Bath’s ground for most of the game. Landajo is dreadful though. We just invited pressure exactly when we needed to play in their 22. Why not just leave DC on for the whole game?

Actually thought that’s the best we’ve played all season ( Bar the brain fart moment that cost us)
Encouraging and disappointing

Can someone please illustrate the brain fart moment as I have no access to moving pictures yet, judging by the past comments a stupid penalty cost us the game, I'd appreciate any further enlightening. Thanks.

Big Tex came out of the defensive line too quickly and tackled a player without the ball. He had ample time to pull out of the tackle - it was really poor discipline. It gave them a fairly straightforward penalty to win with only around a minute left.

Other than that, it was a good game and we played well. I’m surprised by some of the negative assessments/comments in this thread. Yes - there were a few bad decisions and moments in the first half when we we gifted them opportunities, but we fought back well. We played with passion and nearly won in a location that many thought we’d be well beaten (self included). Best performance for some time. Play with that intensity over the next few months and we’ll be doing OK.

We played really well. Outstanding performance from the starting Pack. All were tremendous & collectively they caused Ulster no end of problems. We really have toughened up, is it any coincidence with Toby Booth's arrival? Line out very solid & even scored a try from a lineout catch & drive! Pretty solid in the backs also. Should have won it, but for a very lpoor Landajo "box kick" to their backs. Good positive signs though from this.

Gutted for the team to have big tex ruin it like that! Played superb in my opinion, then the game got killed of when Landajo came on. He was a player I was really looking forward to seeing in the quarters... a player with 80+ caps for his country and we get that shocking performance! Flapping arms, slow paces, added nothing.

What nationally was the ref and linesman?
I was at work trying to watch the game with volume low and sure he came across Irish? I thought the refereeing panel had to be of a neutral country and not one of the playing teams? Might be wrong.

A lot of positives to take away from today for sure

Yes, a good effort by the team. But for a moments madness we'd have had the most unlikely of wins. Looking forward to next week.

I am in Belfast now and watched the game.  The team were dogged in defence and were looking increasingly in control.  Then the whole Landajo 'thing' just happened.  I have no idea what he was doing but from what I observed he single handedly sent the team from a cohesive unit into self destruct.

The final penalty may have been delivered on a plate in midfield but be assured the architect of the situation was Landajo.  From the second he arrived the whole team lost momentum.  His catastrophic performance behind the pack, his constant berating of the other players and shocking box kicks simply delivered the game to Ulster.

It was no shock to see him walk off on his own, isolated & ignored by the team.

Side note - has there ever been a more officious refereeing team?

Apart from the Ulster try that looked in real time to be a forward pass. Not even checked. Unlike the grounding by Elia where he was on top of the ball. That really needed checking...
