Hang on. Yes Landajo was dreadful, but let's not pretend he wasn't like for like at ruck time. I counted 10 seconds for most of Care's "use it" calls. Really horrible to watch, but clearly a tactic.

So close! Really pleased we did not get a humbling and turned in a better performance than of late. Was DC injured? Lang did well again. Forwards looked more cohesive and our defence was pretty solid. Everything good except the result..

Apart from the Ulster try that looked in real time to be a forward pass. Not even checked. Unlike the grounding by Elia where he was on top of the ball. That really needed checking...

I thought exactly the same. The final pass for the McCloskey try looked forward or worth checking at the very least.

Similarly, the ‘forward pass’ from Marler to Dombrandt looked flat at worst to me. We’d have been in a promising position with their defence going backwards and not much of the game left.

Despite the result, I was pleased with the performance. As others have said, it was comfortably one of our better, if not best performance so far this season.

I also agree on Landajo. How did he get 80+ caps for Argentina? He is shockingly terrible.

1) The Scottish TJ might as well have been an Ulster fan for all the help he gave them and the number of times he screwed us.

2) We were let down by our back 3 - Gabs constantly going wandering looking for a faint chance of an intercept, mistiming catches, and missing half his tackles, Chisholm bombing a try then letting McClusky trample him for a try, Ismael never showing what his bulk can do and being a bit soft in defence

3) We never seem to get enough ball to some of our most dangerous carriers - Sinckler and Campagnaro on this occasion

4) It's a real shame, as I enjoyed my one trip there, but watching Ulster matches is deeply unpleasant now. Ever since the red card for wiping out Alex Goode, they've booed every decision, booed every injured player (Sinckler in this case), booed perfectly legal play, and on TV you also have the "benefit" of Stephen Ferris, who is astonishingly one-eyed. It's not a great experience.

5) The attitude was excellent and I'm gutted (and angry) that we lost.

For those wondering why Care came off, doesn't he always? He's old and there always seems to be a big drop off after an hour, I don't think he can play a full match any more. Essentially it's a case of gambling on how long the coaches can keep him out there.

Was great to see the much heralded Coetzee get absolutely schooled and Dombrandt showing what he can do.

But born in Belfast

That would explain the accent then!

Care on one leg would have been better. Coaches got that one wrong.

-Landajo can send it back to Argentina
-Until the number 9 we are a very strong team
-From the number 10 to the number 15 embarrassing
-Smth and Gabs because before they start running always jump?
-Kunatani and Care, becuase change?
-Lang play only to kick the ball in touche?
-Ismaiel same Landajo, can send to South Africa
-Alex Dombrandt next number 8  of England
-The referee did not whistle nothing, was waiting for the suggestion of TMO

Sorry for my English

I may be imagining this, but there's a noticeable step up from Dombradt this season. Last season he was storming, but against top class players he occasionally seemed to be... well, maybe overawed. This season he seems to be disregarding status or reputation, and just plays his own, formidable game. Maybe he's just got better, which is a joy as it shows his breakthrough season wasn't a flash in the pan. But he's becoming as key to us as Minty was. If he continues to progress then he must be in line for a shedload of caps.

Agree for the most part.

On point 2, our back three is currently the weakest part of our team.

Ibitoye is a real risk/reward selection. His positioning and defending are poor but he’s there for his ability to produce a bit of magic. He clearly has talent and with the right application, he can work on the defensive side of his game.

Ismael is an odd one. He was brought in to fill the space left by Earle as a more physical, ‘power’ winger, but so far he looks weak. For a big, powerful man, he looks pretty soft in contact and is doesn’t look like the guy he was playing for the Stormers (look him up on YouTube). The early evidence suggests that his injuries seem to have taken away his point of difference and now he’s just average at best. Murley is clearly preferred if/when fit, but it seems strange we’re not selecting Goneva.

I don’t want to be too tough on Chisholm. He’s a good servant to the club and still has a decent amount of ability (as he showed against Gloucester), but he’s clearly not good enough to be first choice. Morris is probably better when fit, but is less consistent and injury prone.

TRP has us looking for injury cover for Brown (as well as a hooker) so hopefully we can pull a rabbit out of the hat.

Actually thought Gabs was much improved yesterday

He does seem to continuously run out of the line.  All the oppo need to do is wait for him to do that then pass it out side.  I dont think I have seen him get an interception from it yet, surely he would be better holding his line.

We played really well yesterday.  Ulster have I think, won 16 on the trott at home (and 29 out of 33)???.

I can forgive the pen at the end as I think he has been excellent since he joined.  The pack played really well.  Semi was superb again, Robshaw, Dombrandt, Lewies.  The front row had the upper hand at the scrum.  Ellia is playing out of his skin.  I also like the look of Kerrod.  I think he could come in and sneak under the radar as a very good signing.

Cant work Landajo out. When we signed him he seemd the perfect back up to Care.  Reports about how he was quick, snipping runs. His nickname in Argentina is "The Locksmith" for his ability to unlock defences.  He seems to be playing totally the opposite.

Thought the ref was quite harsh on us.  What I did not get, twice at scrum time the TMO called "White, white" for a pen to Quins, but as Ulster managed to get the ball out it was let go, surely we should have had the pen??  Few forward passes missed (and a terrible call against us for Marler to Dombrandt).  Im sure I am wrong but I was not 100% convinced that the 3rd Ulster try in the corner made it over the line, I thought he was short??

Anyway,  good performance, confidence looked to be coming back. Positive signs.

Some very good points made. Ismael also bewilders me. He is big and physical but doesn't seem to apply it. Hopefully it's just a settling in period, but it needs to work out soon or he just won't get the regular selection that players need.

I wonder if we'll try Lang at FB? It would be a shame as he seems to be really settling at centre and is putting some strong shifts there. But when Sailli and Tapuai are both fit we could possibly look to shift things around a little. We also have Lasike to use on occasion.

Agreed re the pack. As a fan of Elia I'm really pleased to see he's playing so well. Back up props are a bit of a concern, but after Marler and Sinks pretty much anyone would be a drop off in quality. Joe seems to be enjoying his rugby and it really rings out the best in him. Semi and Cavunbati bth look like they really want to get stuck in, and the added athleticism can be a headache for opponents to defend against. Lewies is growing into the role and our lineout is working a lot better than it has in a long time. The back row is one that I'd put  up against any on the Prem right now.

Half back is a concern. Smith can't play every minute of every game, and Care is still hard to replace. What happened to Waters? Landajo may just be old, or may still be adapting, but as with Ismael, the settling period needs to be over by now.

If we play like that week in week out, the season isn't looking as gloomy as many would have us believe a few weeks ago.

Walters was involved with England sevens, not sure if he made the final squad for the season though.  Was not involved in Dubai this weekend.
