Perhaps we could get him on a "pay per play" deal as Deano did with Gomersall

Can't see him going for that. Gomers was out of a job whereas AWJ is in contract and will be highly sought after.

If it was perhaps 2 years ago I'd be keen on him joining but not at 34. We'd get 2 seasons out of him tops and for a nailed on starter that's not enough. The successes of Quins haven't ever been built from quick fixes. He'd no doubt play well but then we'd be left with the same problem yet again in 2 season's time. His body is shot to bits and while he's an inspiring player, I actually think his captaincy skills leave much to be desired. He's made some noticeably awful calls in the recent past but seems to be immune from criticism (or even acknowledgement of an average game) especially in Wales but also in wider rugby circles.

We got about two seasons out of Adam Jones, and not even as a nailed on starter. No-one seems to complain about that not being enough.

If where we are at is that we are relying on the academy to give us the next generation of locks, but they are not fully baked yet, then having a very experienced international to help shepherd them through is not such a bad plan, as long as the contract is appropriate for the number of games we are likely to get out of them.

We didn't even get close to receiving our money's worth from Adam Jones on the pitch. He's certainly been a great acquisition on the coaching side of things but certainly not from playing time.

I'm not saying we should rely on the academy but if we'd just be far better off signing an experienced lock that can give us 4 or 5 years as a minimum.

Not sure I agree. Do we know what he was being paid? Adam Jones was bought in aged 34 as we'd had a couple of years of no real luck at tighthead and at that time Sinckler and Collier weren't ready or up to being 1st choice week in week out. In that time Sinck has come England's first choice 3 and gone on a Lions tour. I imagine COS and then JK knew that they'd get a season or 2 from him and that he'd help as an experienced head around the place. Him coming on as a loosehead and shredding Paul Hill in a game against Northants as well as turning back from a journey to Wales to take a place on the bench as one of our props had failed a fitness test suggests he didn't come to us for 1 last pay day.

I'd be more inclined to say that jury is still out on the coaching.

I'd see AWJ performing a similar role to be honest.

Not sure I would call Jones a great coaching addition, jury is still out for me.  Yes Sink and Collier have come on well but as a whole our scrum, in my opinion is not the force it should be when you look at the players we have.

Jones is nothing but a glorified water carrier when it comes to coaching. For a great scrummager he’s overseen probably one of weakest seasons in a long time in the scrum.
