Respect to James Lang for taking that kick on , he could have said no and kicked to touch , but he took on the responsibility and gave it his best shot .

If it was taken from the correct place, might have got over. Great effort though.  Just goes to show that if we had a functioning LO, we may have gone for the corner.  I bet Exeter would have!!

I think that kicking for touch from that angle would have been a challenge.
Either, play it safe and get between the 10 and 22 - but then have a lot of work to do to score.  As the clock was in the red, this would probably have been a bad call.
Or, aim between the 22 and the 5.  A more difficult kick. Possibility of messing it up. Also, quite a bit of work to do to score.
Or, aim at the 5. Big risk of messing up. Better than average chance of getting a score of some kind providing that the line out goes to plan.
But, Wasps could infringe at the lineouts with impunity as the penalty would have been difficult due to angle.

On the other hand.
- James is a strong kicker. IMO a far better kicker than Smith
- Due to the distance, the angle was okay
- I think there was little wind
- Sometimes, football pitches are smaller that rugby pitches - so, kicking from the half way line is not as bad as kicking from half way at the Stoop.

I think he did a good job - shame it just didn't work.
But, the kick would have not been needed if Boyce hadn't been quite so rubbish when he came on and given away 10 yards and then a kickable penalty.

Spoke with the Citing Officer this morning (who had spoken with the ref on the day) and Lang CHOSE to kick from there, Ref perfectly happy for him to kick from the half way line!

Doesn't make a lot of sense to move it backwards from the mark does it , but credit to him for having a crack .
He gives 100% every time he crosses the whitewash .

Unless it was muddy/cut up where the mark was. Perhaps a yard further back was much better footing.

Wellletsbe honest we didn’t deserve a play off Place, after blowing the points lead we had
Would imagine Saints aren’t looking forward to another trip to Sandy park, no shame in finishing 5th at all

I don't understand the "we didn't deserve" argument.  Over the course of a season you finish where you deserve to finish. If we had come fourth it would have been because we deserved to, based on the points we amassed over the course of the season.  Same as when people point out we only ended up where we were because of bonus points.  If other teams had performed better, they would have got themselves more bonus points.

So, by your reckoning, we didn't deserve to finish 4th either. You and SiB are in agreement.
