Indeed loosing 6 out of our last 7 is just not good enough if JK oversaw that he would be lambasted and not congratulated

I do agree with what you're saying but I think we should give a little perspective to these results. Four were against sides that ended up above us in the league and another up at Sale which most teams struggle with. I know the be a top team these are the games we need to start winning but I think it's still early days.

But that only makes sense if not competing would have any impact on our ability to compete in the future. If we'd been humiliated repeatedly by top opposition I might understand your position ( although I'd still strongly disagree), but we've very rarely looked out of our depth.  And even when we have (1st half Clermont) we've turned it around and finished the stronger team. I can buy this argument (although again I disagree) when it's champions Vs challenge cup, but missing out on the playoffs doesn't give us a chance elsewhere.

Do you think Watford fans and players would have preferred to have lost in the semis?

I don't think a pumping in a semi final does moral any good to finish off a season, despite being in the semis. I don't think football's a particularly good analogy but I'd prefer the guys had an extra 2 weeks of holiday.

I tend to agree.  Also, we had relatively easy games at the start of the second half of the season, and this artificially inflated our position for a while before it normalised over the course of the rest of the season.

we lost games we shouldn't have and played some bad rugby, but taking the whole season I felt happier watching us this year compared to last year. Hopefully the new recruits will help Gustard have more impact and next season will be better. Fighting for 4th was way better than fighting to avoid the drop

Regarding the losses at the end of the season. The Northampton last minute loss was what did for us. Other than that the results went broadly according to the form book: Sarries and Exeter away - losses. Enya - loss (that was disappointing), Pests - close loss. There are definitely issues to solve and work on but I feel more optimistic than I did a year ago pre PGs appointment.

Erm, what?

Smith is not a proper 10?

he is not a prem quality 10 - he will be but he is not yet - he has some good touches but is inconsistent and make too many poor decisions - does not compare to the likes of Cipps for instance

Not knocking the lad at all I think he will be fantastic and hope we keep him for many years to come but would like to see an experienced international in such a pivotal position

Well who would have thought there would be so much end of season positivity having won only one from the last seven league games. Is there another club with a worse final third of the season or are we the worst club in the premiership on recent form?
Agreed the latter part of the season was awful and is cause for concern - it was not just the losses but the manner of them and the s+_+t performances.  If we lose and play well I do not care but some of those games were dross.

That said Gussy needs at least 2 seasons to bring in some players hew wants and to lose those he does not want - I am sure he will get it right

It was a shame to lose to Enya, yes... damn autocorrect!

On topic, I agree with the previous few posters - it has been a much more enjoyable season to watch Quins play, despite some frustrating losses. Our team have played as a team, and heads have not seemed to drop as much as last season. Onwards and upwards under Gussy!

This whole "DOR needs 2 or 3 seasons to make it his squad - give him time" isn't really acceptable. I know DoRs will want players they have chosen, but a professional club cannot wait 3 years in the hope that we'll get somewhere and then potentially have to start all over again.

Saints got into the playoffs and I think Boyd has only been there one season.

In another 2 seasons, Care, Brown and Robshaw will be gone and then some people will be making excuses about another rebuilding phase. Gustard has had a huge clear out so next season the squad will have a lot of players he has chosen, with a full pre-season, so so no excuses

Yes, next season is his squad and he has had a chance to make a difference, need to improvement. Hopefully we will push on a bit. Boyd has done well in his first season at Saints but was 1m away from them having the same discussion as our good selves....

Mmmm it may be that he had not much choice with his 'chosen'. His hand's may have been tied by the salary cap not increasing, in that he's needed to lose players and bring in cheaper options but not necessarily better players, so the back ups used when there are  injuries aren't as strong next season.

Hard to agree with much of that. Significant upgrades for me in Landajo, Botta and Campagnaro. Evans a younger, livelier option than Wallace. Lawday potentially stronger all round than Luamanu. Baldwin may even become our starting hooker and is a big improvement on Ward. Maybe not the star names we have been linked with, but some shrewd and sensible squad recruitment so far. Still hoping for a couple of top tier reinforcements, but I'm happy with the squad he looks to be building and definitely see it as a step forward from those who are departing.

Horwill and Visser were not expected retirements. That cash should (in theory) be available to use.

Whilst the points tally/wins and league position may not be dramatically better than previous regimes the most important thing is the context of this position within our direction of travel.  It feels like we are on the up when it comes to performances, rather than down.  The future is bright.
