Shame that Lang hasn’t made the squad

Another centre away on international duty. Leaves us Esterhuizen and Northmore with Lasike still injured.

Might soon see some more appearances from Anyanwu or Hyde?

Yeah, kinda unfortunate. I think it was a reasonable gamble to suggest he wouldn't be called up. Bit frustrating.

Still, it's a good starting pairing and then a good chance for a talented youngster!

The 2 academy boys have both been getting some game time with Richmond and Scottish, so they should be ready (in terms of sharpness etc).  Considering there is Prem cup games coming up, I expect they were going to play anyway

Hyde or Beard are more natural 13s than Anyanwu so I’d guess they would be up first if it came to it. Also Murley has experience in that position too.

We might get him back a pretty big squad of 44, assume they will trim this down a bit

Some interesting insight into the state of the Scotland squad here:

Gregor Townsend announced a 42-player squad for Scotland's Autumn Test series earlier today and gave these insight into what he is thinking
Rugby News from The Offside Line · theoffsideline.com

Key takeaways from a (former) Quins perspective:
- Sounds like Lang would have been selected but has a groin injury, which may explain why Jones was called up
- Glenn Young is also injured - in fact, every Scottish lock I've ever heard of and several I haven't appear to be injured at the moment, which could make for a tough autumn or the sudden discovery of some kilted grandmothers
- Sounds like Scott Steele was very close to selection - so might get called up if there's an injury.

Is Beard fit to play? Last I remember of him he had a good game on the wing against Sale before getting injured.
