Having been a season ticket holder since 1990 (although they didn’t do actual season tickets)
15. Brown
14. Harriman
13. Halliday
12. Greenwood
11. Monye
10. Evans
9. Care
8. Easter
7. Winterbottom
6. D Wilson
5. Horwill
4. Ackford
3. Sinkler
2. Wood
1. Marler

16. Baldwin
17. Leonard
18. Louw
19. Robson
20. Fasavalu
21. Gomarsal
22. Smith
23. Staples

Would have loved to have put in; Lacroix, Robshaw,   Esterhuizen, JTH, Clifford, Sheasby, Luger but only so much room

Carling not close for me as his priority was always England and he spent a lot of time playing for Quins trying not to get injured. Don’t get why people put Zinzan in their best ever Quins teams. Was clearly a world class / legend for NZ but he was very much past it when he came to Quins and didn’t put any stand out performances in. Similarly Adam Jones did a great job for Quins as a player but his influence was much more as a mentor gor Sink & Collier who both were ahead of him playing wise by that point and were selected for the big games ahead of him

Great team and very similar to my own thoughts.  I would have Brain Moore on the bench ahead of Baldwin and possibly Marchant in place of Staples as he covers Wing and centre. Last one is either Vos or Robshaw on the bench for me.

Enjoyed the thread, but anyone who doesn’t have a back row of Robshaw, Vos, Easter has got the answer wrong.

I can only assume that you never saw Winterbottom play. Possibly the hardest man I've ever seen in the quarters. And I include Moore in that (who does get in ahead of Woody for me).

Ross < Louw

*Ahem!* It was JJ at Tighthead in 2012. Ross had already left by then

I knew there would be one I misremembered. JJ < Louw, though. Especially under the scrum laws.

Nobody mentioned Pitbull.  Jason Leonard possibly also is worthy of mention.

There is a big problem in that the "amateur" players had day jobs so did not have the time to spend in the gym or on the training park that modern players do - and did not have the nutrition and physio support.  So even at their best, when they might be the best player in Europe, they were at the level of a modern championship or National 1 player.

Going back further, none of us know how good a player Adrian Stoop was - though he is credited with inventing modern back play.

Ditto Mickey Steel Bodger - whose career was ended early by an ACL injury, though that meant he started is career as an administrator.

You could also include Stoop's proteges Ronald Poulton-Palmer (who was killed in WWI before he could demonstrate more than a glimpse of his talent) and Douglas Bader (whose career was ended by slightly more than an ACL injury).

Stoop himself was independently wealthy and I believe was one of the first athletes to dedicate himself to training in the way we'd recognise it today. He'd definitely be a candidate for an all time side - but most people are restricting themselves to people they actually saw play in Quins colours.

being more serious in my approach I can't go against what most have picked.

If i was picking a rotated squad for our most recent years leaving out our biggest names that are on the other lists (last 15 years or so)

1. Ceri Jones
2. Dave Ward
3. James Johnston
4. Kohn
5. Robson
6. Vos
7. Skinner
9. Gommarsall
10. Mehrtens
11. Simon Keogh
12. Mel Deane
13. Tiesi
14 Williams
15 Duffy

Appreciate what you're trying to do but surely there's a No. 8 that no-one's mentioned?

I always had fond memories of George Harder as a kid watching Quins. I must have been 8-ish at the time not sure if he was any good just remember him crashing the ball up all the time in heavy traffic.

I liked him too, played 13 or 14 if I remember rightly?! He's also the only player I've ever seen score a spiral drop goal for Quins... Or any team I suppose!

My favourite ever Quins player, for no other reason than he always gave it 100% (and frequently more than that). Harder, Keogh, Fuga and Deane are the 4 players from that 2004 Parker Pen Shield winning era that I would struggle to leave out of an all-time Quins squad despite there obviously being better players since in their respective positions. Ah the memories!
