When will we have a fully fit squad?
« on: Thursday 09-Apr-2020, 09:26* »
Just wondering if we will emerge from all this with our best 15 and what that team would look like?

I was thinking about this last night. The issue may be that those who need physio won't be getting it. Others that just need rest will be getting plenty.

As long as they look after themselves they should look pretty much the same. Maybe with longer hair.

Fortunately we no longer have Luke Wallace - he'd look like a yeti by now.

We have Adam Jones. :)

If the season did restart, which admittedly seems very unlikely, would we have Marchant back?

It would depend on what the state of play is regarding Super Rugby and the Provincial game in NZ. NZ in particular seems to have done really well at getting on top of the pandemic, with only one registered death in a population of 4.8 million and 1239 confirmed or suspected cases. Scaled up, that would be the equivalent in the UK of 15 deaths and 18,500 cases. Our current numbers stand at 6,159 deaths, 55,242 cases. The rate of increase in the number of cases for NZ is also a lot slower than the UKs, meaning they (at least so far) seem to be near the point of moving past the peak that we've all heard so much about recently.

There's a good chance that they will be one of the first places to relax the restrictions, meaning that they'll get back to playing before we do...

This is impacting all sport at the moment as regards the season not ending till after the current contracts have expired. Because it covers so many, I would have thought that 'Rugby' as a whole would like to make the decision rather than individual clubs/players doing deals...
