Quick Snapshot of the season so far
« on: Monday 26-Nov-2018, 15:08* »
Was interested to see roughly how we were doing this year versus the same time last year ( I know it's early in the season), my feelings are we are playing better rugby with a much better defence than last year so looked at the stats although room for improvement and a way to go yet so thought I'd share:-

2017-18

Played 8, Won 4, Lost 4, 4 bonus points, 20 league points, tries for 27, tries against 28

2018-19

Played 8, Won 3, Lost 5, 7 bonus points, 19 league points, tries for 20, tries against 16

So defence way better from tries shipped, way better on the bonus points but our attack maybe not so hot this year and after watching the warriors game think that showed up at the weekend. So a work in progress and a couple of items improved, couldnt find the penalty break down to see if that improved and didnt have time to check out the league position, sorry.

certainly looks like a tighter season for all teams outside the top 4 this season.

Apart from the Irish game, we did ok early last season. It was around this time the wheels completely fell off.

And I agree that the defence is far better. Seems to have been at the expense of our attack(!), but it's easier to win games and BPs with a good defence.

When asked at the end of last season - what would I like for this season?
I answered - A better defence.

Last year, I sat in the South Stand watching teams running in tries for fun while the crowds were booing and streaming out of the gates.
This year we are putting up a bit of a fight at least.

I thought that last season went downhill when we lost to Wasps earlier this year.  Until then, we were still in the mix - especially after BG10.  After that, I think we only won 1 game and scored no bonus points until the end of the season

last season I think we only won 7 and lost 15 so from end of Nov onward, we won only 3 games

I wonder if Guzzie is going down the Sarries route - sort the defence out and then look at the attack.

Hopefully he doesn't wait 3 years before doing the attack like Sarries did though.

Did they not change half the team and wheel in a load of Saffers, some of whom didn't stay for that long? Training free-wheeling Super 14/15/16 players for whom defence was an option might have been expected to the some time - although Quins have shown a superficial or even greater resemblance to the optional defence doctrine for a few seasons...  ;)
