That's exactly what it looks like to me in this instance, it kind of happens as a result of the impact, not through any attempt by the player!

You're supposed to tackle with your arm outstretched and grabbing after contact (you can't really do it beforehand), though - it's very different to those who just want to hit people with a braced shoulder+upper arm. Either way, intentional or otherwise, he makes the tackle with the safer method of not having a braced shoulder, and almost immediately wraps - so very difficult to accuse him of foul play from that perspective.

Now, the launching off his feet at an opponent in the air long after the ball's gone, and the bad landing...

I reckon he was hoping to earn the foul himself due to being tackled in the air.

Twelve weeks (reduced from 24). For those who don't read French it was for tackling a player off the ground. Considered highly dangerous so the highest possible sanction but then the usual reduction for previous good record, remorse, guilty plea etc.

Ryno PIETERSE (CASTRES OLYMPIQUE) Castres Olympique / Union Bordeaux-Bègles (J3 TOP 14) Carton rouge

Which means he just misses the game v Quins in Castres before Xmas, but not the return match...

Ryno PIETERSE (CASTRES OLYMPIQUE) Castres Olympique / Union Bordeaux-Bègles (J3 TOP 14) Red card

Mr. Ryno PIETERSE was found responsible for "Dangerous play" and more specifically for "Tackling, charging, pulling, pushing or grabbing an opponent whose feet are not touching the ground".
Taking into account the elements of the case and the high level of dangerousness of the action, the Disciplinary and Regulations Committee decided to set the point of entry of the sanction at 24 weeks, which is a higher level than the higher level provided for by the NRL's disciplinary scale.

1/3After taking into account the mitigating circumstances (clean disciplinary record, youth and inexperience, admission of guilt, expression of remorse, conduct before and during the hearing), the sanction was reduced by 12 weeks.

Consequently, Mr. Ryno PIETERSE is suspended for twelve weeks.

The suspension takes effect on the day of the match. As of 29 September 2021 and given that Mr. Ryno PIETERSE is likely to be registered on the "Champions Cup" list of Castres Olympique, the date of re-qualification of Mr. Ryno PIETERSE will be determined at a later date.
